Description
HARVEY T. LEE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND J. S.
v HODGES, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,086, dated May 11, 1875 application led v February 20, 1875.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY Trios. LEE, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, in the State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Toy, called a Globe-llhistle; and do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the tignres marked thereon.
This invention is an improved Whistling-toy, constructed of a hollow globe or ball adapted, by means of a central division provided with suitable perforations or reeds, to make a musical sound when moving in either direction.
In the drawings, Figures l and 2 represent side elevations of my improved toy, and Figs. 3, 4, 5,and 6 sectional elevations of the same.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improved toy, I Will now proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation.
A represents a hollow globe or ball of suitable material and size, which is provided at opposite points With theslotted openings a a, and also with the central partition or partitions a a. b b represent reeds located upon opposite sides of the single partition over suitable openings in the same, one of which is adapted to sound when the ball is moved in one direction, and the other when the ball is moved in the opposite direction. c c represent simple openings formed in the Wallsof the donble partition, Fig. 6, which, in connection with the intermediate space are adapted to make a sound when the ball is moving in either direction. d represents an ey e, by means of which the ball is attached to an elastic or non-elastic cord. The ball may be simply whirled by means of the cord, or be used'by means of an elastic cord as a return ball.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The toy described, consisting of a hollow globe, provided with the central partition, having reed or Whistle openings, as described, adapted to give sound when the ball is moving in either direction, as set forth.
