` COMBINATION MUFFLER HOLDER non comps.
Application led November 22.11924. Serial 110.751,488.
The object of this invention is to combine t muffler with a coat in such a way that there s a positive cooperation between the two, in fact, so that the muffler will form an adjunct both as ornamentation and usefulness to the coat. Although mufflers have heretofore been worn by persons also wearing a coat, unless the wearers neck was swathed by the muffler' as onev applies a bandage, there could be nothing like a permanent cooperation of the muiiier and the coat as a combination body covering garment.
A furtherobject of the invention is to guard the color of the coat from the wearers neck or vice versa, which function is important in connection with fur-collared oats.
In carrying out the object of the invention, it is preferred that a two-positioned slip-way be secured within the coat along the neck opening thereof and the muffler be run through this slip-way.
The above and further objects of the invention will be pointed out more in detail in the following claims which are directed to the illustrative embodiment of the inrent-ion described in the following specification in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof. This embodiment is setforth merely for illustration and explanation of the claims and not for limitation.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the slip guard in the down position;
Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the slip guard in the up position; and
Fig. 3 is a cross-section through the plane corresponding to line III-III of Figure 1.
A indicates a coat of any usual construction, which, in the present instance, is a fur coat comprising a body 1, body lining 2 and collar 3. The neck opening is indicated by 4. l
A guard flap B, of suitable fabric, preferably of fine quality and preferably corresponding to the lining- 2 of the coat, is
formed of suitable configuration. The pen-` tagonal configuration shown in the figures has been found to be preferable. This configuration provides three free corners 5, 6 and 7 at each of which are provided-releasable anchoring means which may properly take the form of the snaps 9, 10 and 11, the respective male and female parts of which are respectively'secured tothel guard `B `and the lining 2'. Embracing the guard B and symmetrically positioned relatively to the median planeof the coat are a pair of loops 13 and 14, each embracing the flap B, so that one ply 15 of each loop is along one side of the flap, while the other ply 16 of each loop is along the other side of the .flap B.l Both the flap B and the loops 13 and 14 are secured by suitable stitching 17 to the coat at the neck opening 4. If it is desired to wear the muffler C inside the coat or in a relatively downward position, the parts should be positioned and secured as'V shown in Figure 1. The mufller C is riven through the slip-way provided between the flap B and the pliesk 16 of the loops 13 and 14.
If it is desired to wear the mufHer in a more eminent position, the flap B should Vbe folded up as shown in Figure 2, in which position the muffler may be riven through the slip-way provided between the plies 15 of the loops 13 and 14 and the flap B, in which position the muffler lies directly against the neck of the wearer or, on the other hand, if it is sov desired, the muffler may be left in the position shown in Figure 1, but the entire flaps and loops be folded up so that the muiler occupies a position between the coat collar 3 and the guard flap B.
The inventive thought may have a variety of expressions as is contemplated byV what I claim'and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent as follows:
`1. In combination, a coat and a muflierguard flap stitched along one hinging edge only to the coat at the rear of the neck opening; means forming a slipway across the face of said flap and movable with said flap into each of two positions by swinging said lap'onv said hinging edge.
2. In combination with a coat, fabric means providing a slip-way for a muler permanently secured to said coat along the neck opening of said coat and releasable fastening means detachably to anchor said fabric means to thev inside of said coat whereby said fabric means may occupy either of two functioning positions.
3. In combination with a coat, a muler guard comprising a flap secured along one edge to said coat, at thel neck opening; releasable anchoring means for the free edge of said flap to secure it flat against the inside of said coat and When 1'e]ezlsed to perlnit it to be uptnined to shield thecollai of said coat; and mulei' slipnf'ays 011 bothl 4L. In combination With 'a coat a neck 'guard-Hap; stitching securing said guardl flap to said coat inside lts neck opening; a
pair of slip-Way loops embracing said flap and secured at their ends to said coat at its neck opening and free to move With said flap; vand a` nnlffier sldebly extending through said loops and against said Hap.
, In Witness \`vhe1"e0f,`I have signed my name towthis specification, this 2nd day of Ju1y,`1924.V
