This invention relates to an abdominal supporter, and particularly to a garment provided with means for its-adjustment to comfortably lit the wearer and retain its po-s sition when in use. i

The frequent objection to supporters of this character is that they alter their position in the movement of the wearer and are thus rendered uncomfortable and fail to perform their intended functions. There is also a tendency of the front and back pads to roll or fold at the top and bottom edges, which prevents a smooth tit at the waist line and beneath the abdomen.

The invention has for an objectl to provide a novel and improved construction Comprising a segmental front pad or piece having vertical braces disposed to retainthe-general shape of the pad and yieldable laterally to conform to the curvature of the abdomen, together with a similarly braced back pad connected thereto by adjustable straps.

Another object of the invention is to present a special arrangement of the straps con. necting the front and back pads by which the waist line strap is adjusted at opposite sides of the front pad and the lower straps adjustable at the sides of the back pad, all of the parts being formed of non-elastic ma.- terial which preserves the shape and size While materially extending the period of use.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claim.

The numeral 10 designates the front pad of the supporter which if desired may comprise two segmental members connected by detachable fastenings 11 at the front of the garment. VThe position of these fastenings, however, may be changed as found de-sirable, and particularly if the opening be loca-ted at one side of the front. Beneath the waist strap lower straps 16 are provided, thesebeing secured at 17 to the front pad and extended through slip` buckles 18 secured to the rear pad so that the free ends of the straps 16 extend' toward the front and can be conveniently grasped by the hand of the wearer to secure an equal adjustment of the straps.

ln order to prevent the rolling or overturning of the edges of the pads and also to retain their propershape lwhile permitting adjustment to the curvature of the abdomen, the pads are provided with bracing means such as indicated at 19 and 2() upon the front pad and at 21 upon the rear pad, these means extending between the upper and lower edges of the pad pieces. It will be noted that the brace 19 extends in a vertical line parallel to theA opening between the front pad sections while the brace 2O extends at an angle thereto, leaving an unbraced portion 22 which permits the proper' fitting of the upper edge of the supporter Whilethelower edge thereof is stiifened by the approach of the braces to each other, as at 23. Such construction provides the maximum of support, beneath the abdomen and permits a proper curvature at the waist line.

While these braces may be applied in any desired manner, still it is often preferable to form the pads of two layers of material, as indicated in F igures 3 and 4, these .being connected by lines of stitching 24 extending from the top to the bottom thereof and thus forming a pocket yto receive the brace 25. Vhile the form of buckle 18 does not form any part of this invention, still a desirable construction thereof for the purpose of'per mitting the simultaneous adjustment of the straps, comprises the 'frame 26 having the gripping bar 27 slidable thereon, as usual in this class of buckles.

The front pad may 'be of the general configuration herein shown, and for the purpose of securing a comfortable fit leaving the hips free the side edges are curved as at 28 thus comprising a segmental structure While the top edge 29 is substantially straight to fit the loof waist line. The rear pad 12 is of a general Voval shape adapted to comfortably fit at the small of the back and comprises the straight upper edge 30 and curved side edges 3l merging into a substmtiallyr straight lower edge 32.

While the details of constructionand configuration have been specifically described, the invention is not confined `thereto as changes and alterations may be made in the shape, size and detail construction of the parts. Y Y

A three piece abdominal supporter comprising a front pad composedl ,of substantially segmental parts shaped to t the curvature of the abdomen and connected by a detachable fastening, a stayed rear pad of less area than the front pad and increasing in diameter downward to fit the lower portion of the back adjacent the base of the -spinal column, connecting straps disposed at Athe upper edges of the front and rear pads, lower connecting-straps extending upward from the lower portion of the front pad to the rear pad, and adjusting devices for upper straps Vat the `iront pad and for the lower straps at the rear pad. l
