This invention relates" to locking devices, and more particularly to ailock specially adapted for securing mine car checks such as commonly used by miners; i i
One of the main objects o1 the invention is to'provide acheck lock of simple and inexpensive construction wliich will securely hold the checkin such manner as to iiectually avoid its unauthorized removal. A further object is toprovide a lock in which the locking" bolt is magnetically operated thus avoiding any possibility of releasing the check by means of a key'or similar element. Anotherobject is to provide a lock so constructed as .to eflectually prevent release of the check by means of a strip of wire or other material inserted into the lock. Further objects will appear from the detail description. x

The bodv of the lock is formed of a front plate 1 and a back plate 2.
is of approximately semi-circular shape. being slightly greater in extent than a semicircle, and tits snugly into a similarly shaped flange 3 extending rearwardly from plate 1. This back plate is provided, in its inner .iace, with a recess 4; which co-operates with the substantially on inner face of front plate 1 to provide a slot for reception of a check such as that shown in Fig. 5. The main portion of this recess increases inwardly in depth to within a. short distance of a socket 5 provided in the upper portion of plate 2 for reception of the inner end portion of a locking member or bolt 6. This provides a depression 2 at the inner side of check A when the latter is in the lock. and a shoulder 2 adjacent to the lower edge of socket 5. In the event that an at tempt is made to release the check by inserting a thin strip of material between the check and back plate 2, this strip of material will follow depression 2 so as to be deflected away from check A until it encounters The back plate shoulder 2". As the upper portion a of depressions is of just suiiicient depth to snugly receive th'eupper portion ofthe check, the strip of material which encounters shoulder 2' will be deflected upwardly thereby and, upon contact with the inner face of check A, will be turned back upon itself. What I claim is:
