Application filed November 18, 1926. Serial No. 149,139.
The present invention relates to amusement or exercising devices commonly known as slides especially designed for playground use, the primary object of the invention being to provide a slide of this character which will be supported in an upright position at all times, the support being of such a construction as to eliminate any possibility of the device falling over.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily folded into a small and compact article for transporting and storing.
A still further object of the invention to provide a slide constructed of sheet metal, the same beingsupported vthroughout its length by a plurality of spaced supporting strips disposed under the slide proper.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means to prevent injury to the person using the slide, by contact with the lower or free end of the slide.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which wi l appear as the description proceeds. the invention resides in the combination and a rangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within thescope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit oi the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the device in its preferred form embodies a body section 5 and a slide section 6, the body section 5 being provided with inwardly extended upper end portions 7 to which the slide section is bolted, at 8.
The bolt also affords means for securing the upper end of the support 9-130 the body portion, and as shown more clearly by Figure 1, the support 9 embodies bars 10 inclined outwardly, and connected attheir lower ends by means of the bar 11.

Shorter supports are indicated at 1 t and 15 respectively, each of these supports embodying angularly extended bars 16 that also have connection with the slide section to secure the supports in position.
The body portion includes steps 17 and a Jlatforin embodying the upper end portions 7 to which the transverse bars 18 are connected. Side rails 19 are provided on the body portion and afford means whereby a person may balance himself on passing to the platform to use the slide.
This slide is of a particular construction and includes angle bars 20 and 21 which are arranged in pairs on opposite sides of the slide and clamp the base 22 of the slide therebetwcen, the base being shown as having its side edges securely held between the angle bars of each pair by countersunk bolts 23. I i V Bracing bars 2 1 are arranged in spaced relation with each other and extend throughout the length of the slide, the bars 24: being connected by means of the transversely disposed bars 25 which are bolted thereto, as clearly shown by Figure 3. These bars have hook-shaped ends 8 to be positioned over the bolt 8.
In the form of the invention as shown by Figure 7, the support is in the form of a vertical pipe 26 which has its lower end Ell) embedded in the concrete base 27, there being provided a transversely disposed bar 28 also embedded in the concrete base 27 to anchor the post 26 in its upright position and insure against the same moving vertically or laterally.
At the upper end of the pipe 26 is a T- coupling 29 embodying sections bolted together by means of the bolt 30 that also pass through the pipe 26. The reference character 31 indicates a transversely crisposed pipe that has connection with the "i coupling the same being secured in position by bolts 32.
The removable securing members that secure the slide to the supporting pipe are indicated at 33 each of which embodying separable clamping members held together by means of the bolts 34:.
Extending up 'I'ardly tronrthese members are arms 35 which are provided with openings to receive the rod 36 that also passes through openings in the angle be rs 31' forming a part of the slide proper. The red 30 also passes through the angle bars 38 at the sides of the platform 3:), the angle bars 4L0 which have connection with the platform 39 providing means for supporting steps.
The slide proper in this term of the in vention also includes a pair oi spaced angle bars 41 arranged on each side of the slide, and between which bars 237 and 4.51 the length of sheet metal 42 is secured as by n'ieans of the countersunk bolt 43.
Spaced parallel bars a l extend longitudinally of the member 4-9. and are held in spaced relation by means of the transverse bars 45 so that the member will not sag under the weight of persons using the device.
The forward. end of the member 4-2 is also curved downwardly as at l6. The structure shown by sheet 4: of the drawings, illustrates still another form oi? the invention and embodies a ladder section l-T constructed of angle bars that hare openings at their upper ends to receive the rod 4' which rod is held in position by means of the nuts l9 disposed at the ends thereof.
This rod 4:8 also acts as a support for the slide 50, which slide inciudes angle bar 51 to which the length of sheet metal 52 is secured. Bars 53 are also secured to the length of sheet metal 52 and have downwardly curved upper extremities 54 adapted tohook over the rod d8 to hold the slide against movement with respect to the ladder section.
Brace bars connect the ladder section to the slide proper in such a way as to prevent spreading of the ladder section and slide. In this form oi. the invention it will be seen that all supports other than the slide proper and ladder section are eliminated the construction of the slide in this form being such as to hold the device in an upright position at all times.

An amusement device including a slide section and a supporting section, means for pivotally connecting the slide section and support? section, saidslide section including lateral pairs of angle bars and a length of sheet metal, said length of sheet metal having its side edges secured between the angle bars, and means disposed under the length oi? sheet metal for supporting the length of sheet metal throughout its length.
3. in amusement device including a slide section and a supporting section, said supporting section embodying angle bars, steps arranged between the angle bars and adapted to hold the angle bars in spaced relation with each other, a platform at the upper end of the supporting section, a rod supported adjacent to the supporting sec tion, said slide section embodying upper and lower angle bars, a length of sheet metal forming the base i the slide section and having its side edges secured between the angle bars, and a supporting structure under the length of sheet metal for supporting the length of sheet metal throughout its length.
