The opposed cylinders 3 and 4 are provided with the cylinder-heads 5 and 6 respectively, and are connected in alinement bythe central housing` 7 through which the shaft 8 is suitably journaled.
The pistons A and B are mounted in the cylinders 3 and 4 respectively and are mounted on the ends of the piston-rod C which serves to connect them rigidly together, and which midway its length is apertured at 9 to receive the roller 10 on the free end of the crank-arm 11.
Each of the cylinder-heads 5 and 6 has a central port 12, and each of the pistons A and B has a central bore 13 to receive a valve-stem 14 having a conoidal outer terminal 15.
The piston-rod C is provided With longitudinal bores 16, restricted at'17 to form a seat and bearing for the thimble 18, said thimble 18 receiving the inner end of the sleeve 19 in which the valve-stem 14 is yieldingly and adjustably mounted by means of the spring 20 and screiv plug 21.
The sleeve 19 Vhas at its base the shoulder 22 against which the coiled spring 23 mounted surrounding ysaid lsleeve 19 and with its inner terminal abutting against the mouth of the thi1nble'18.

Compressed air is then admitted to the cylinder 3 through its port 12, driving the cylinders A and B to the right, until the terminal 15 ot the valve-stein 14 ot the piston B seats in and closes the port 12 ot' the cylinder 4. The rapidity ot the movement thus far described will correspond with the pressure of the air introduced to the cylinder 3, and that speed Vmust be diminished by an opposing pressure in the cylinder 4, Which is built up in the further progress toward the end of its outward stroke of the piston B by the cooperation of the valve-stem 14 and the thimble 18 (due to their respective spring-mountings above described), with the roller 10.
The described mechanism may be varied in construction in many respects, as it is merely the single form exhibited by me in response to the statutory requirement|` without departing' 'from my invention es delined in the Yfollowingclaims.
