separate compartments are provided, one for the cups and easily broken dishes, the other compartment having a novel vrack therein for spraying plates to hold the same in position while being sprayed.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a dish washing machine having a novel spray associated therewith which may be adjusted to spray any desired portion of the tray containing the dishes.

An additional object of the invention is to provide a dishwashing machine which is simple in construction, consists of few parts that may be easily assembled and disassembled, and which may be manufactured and placed on the market at a comparatively small cost.

With the above and other objects and advantages in mind which will appear as the description proceeds the invention resides in the combinations and arrangements of parts details of constructions, o )erations and formations, and general assem l'age all of which will be further enlarged upon and described hereafter, the invention being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of one of the sprays;

There is provided a receptacle which consists of sections 5 and O, the section 6 being connected with the. section 5 at the upper edge thereof. A wire 7 encircles the sections at their meeting edges.

An improved spray is provided which con sists of a relatively short pipe 8 having an outlet opening 9 at. one side thereof. Extending transversely through the pipe 8 is a threaded valve 10 having. one end tapered and formed into. an annular head the tapered part being disposed in the opening 9 and the head 10 projecting from the same. A series of these sprays are employed which are connected together through the medium of pipes 11, the sprays being disposed upon the walls of the receptacle and extending entirely around the same, acommon water inlet valve being provided for the sprays.

There is provided a truncated valve casing 13 provided with nipples 14 at diametri cally opposite points, one of which constitutes an inlet port and the other an outlet port. Aremovable cap 15 is threaded on the lower end of the casing by means of which access may be had into the interior of the same. Extending vertically from the casing is a duct 16 which communicates with the outlet port. A hollow valve stem 17 extends vertically from a rotatable valve 18 through thecasing 13 and is provided with a lateral port 19 adapted to register with the duct 16. A tube 20 is disposed within the hollow valve stem -17 and is spaced therefrom and extends within the valve 18 and connected therewith. A baflie plate 26 extends, transversely across the casing and its lower edge is slightly raised from the cap 15 to permit the water to pass thereunder and also into inlet 12, to the sprays. This plate depends from thevalve and rotates therewith and is adapted to be disposed at right-angles to the position shown in Figure 5 ,to allow the water to flow through the valve casing. When the valve stem is rotated so the port 19 registers with the port through the valve casing flows through the tube 20 into the receptacle thereon down into the valve stem and out by way of ports 19 and 16 into port 12 and finally to the sprays to be played upon the dishes. In Figures 11 and 12 I have shown a drain rack which consists of a receptacle 31 in which is mounted a foraminated false bottom 32 for supporting the dishes after they have been washed and a removable tray supported at the top of the receptacle.

Whatis claimed is:

In a dish washing machine the combination with a receptacle, of superposed spaced containers within the receptacle, the upper container being foraminous and spaced from the walls of the receptacle, a pipe extending continuously around but spaced from the uppencontainer and located between said container and the wall of the receptacle, said pipe being the containers, there being tures in the ipe opening inwardly therefrom toward t e bottom portion of the upper container, and a series of apertures opening from said' pipe to deliver jets bea series of apertween the the receptacle, an outwardly tapered valve for controlling the flow of water through each aperture and a spreading head at the outer end of the valve supported thereby outwardly beyondthe opening, the spreading head adjacent one series of openings constituting means for breaking up the jets of water issuing from said openings and spraying them inwardly and u wardly and the heads upon the valves a jacent the other openings constituting means for breaking up the jets issuing from said openings to spray them inwardly, upwardly and downwardly into both containers.
