ADOLPH M. SEEGER, OF TOLEDO, OHIO.
CABLE CARRIER.
Application filed. September 8, 1925.
This invention relates to set-up or assemblies of brackets.
This invention has utility when incorporated in mountings for placing cables in tunnels, man-holes, and along walls or supports.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view of an embodiment of the invention as a cable carrler mounted along a wall;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a cradle and its mounting as assembled in said carrier, parts being broken away;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the cradle and its mounting of Fig. 2;
Fig. t is a View similar to Fig. 3 as to the auxiliary bracket and a metallic instead oi porcelain cradle; and l i Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the cradle of Fig. t with its mounting or auxiliary bracket. Wall 1 is shown as having assembled therewith by bolts 2, primary supports or channels having web portions 3 and flanges t, which flanges are drawn by the bolts 2 against the wall to leave recess 5 in the channel with which rectangular openings 6 are in communication. These rectangular openings 6 provide seats from such channel or primary support to permit ready mounting of brackets as auxiliary supporting means. Sheet metal piece 7, having upper concave form, has marginal upwardly offset outwardly extending flanges 8 having seats 9 therein approximating a distance apart the width of the opening 6 with tapered flare portions 10 therebeyond. These seats 9 form a reduced neck portion from which the wider head portion 10 extends. Bevond these seats 9, the concave portion 7 has strut 11 downwardly extending as a strut tongue. This bracket may be slightly inclined so that the wider portions 10 may enter the opening 6. Then by approxlmating horizontal position for this bracket, the nbtched seats 9 coact with the sides of the opening 6 in looking this bracket against longitudinal movement as to the web 3 of the channel 3, 4. In this position the strut 11 opposes the web 3 below the seat 6 and serves as a strut for giving stability to this bracket as mounted in the channel. These upwardly and outwardly extending portions 8 terminate in edges 12, 13, over which may be slid cradle 14 having seats 15 engaging the edges, 12, 13, with opposing inward extensions 16 therebelow. This cradle 14 is preferably as an Serial No. 55,068.
insulator or of porcelain when the articles to be carried, as cables 17, are electrical conductors. However, in some practice it may be preferred to adopt cradle'18 of similar cross-section to the bracket 7, 8, with tongues 11 struck therefrom in opposing positions in enveloping the edges 12, 13.
In this assembly the brackets and cradles may be placed in such number of seats in the primary support and in the relation as desired. The supports 3, at, may be placed in vertical position either side up or at a desired angle. W'ith the channels 3, at, disposed in one direction, bracket 7, 8, may be given even considerable inclination relatively thereto for making the bend in the cable or for other purposes desired and still the support be effective for holding the bracket assembled. The cradles may be placed in such numb-er and position as desired upon the brackets. Furthermore, they may be placed and removed by merely lifting the cable to be free thereof. The posi tion of the cradle on the bracket may be at any point along the bracket. These are features making thisstructur-e readily susceptible to changes,shiftings, and alterations, as well as set ups. In the event one length of bracket has been adopted and it is desired to provide a larger or smaller bracket for more or less cradles, this may be readily accomplished independently of any wrecking of the installation, for it is only necessary to relieve the brackets one at a time for such replacements. This structure has exceptional value in handling conduits in tunnels, along side walls, in man-holes, whether the cables or conduits be power or signal or telephone.
l/Vhat is claimed and it is desired to secure by Letters Patent is:
A cable supporting bracket having a reduced neck portion and head broader than the neck portion and extending therefrom, in combination with a primary support having a rectangular shaped opening corresponding substantially to that of the said neck portion and the diagonal of said opening greater than the width of said head, whereby said head. may be inserted therethrough by tilting said bracket on its longitudinal aXis, said bracket having a struttongue engaging said support below said OPEIHIIO.
In witness whereof I affix my signature.
ADOLPH M. SEEGER.
