Application filed July 81, 1926, Serial No. 126,222, and in Germany larch 24, 1925.
This invention. relates to an improved driving-gear to tproduce an intermittent movement of the lm in a projection apparatus, and in which the usual perforations 5 in the film are enga d by teeth arranged on a slide and moved by a lever that is operated by a cam-disc. The novelty of the vention consists in having said slide urged towards the film by means of a spring encircling said lever and normally causing engagement between film andteeth. Pins are provlded on the teeth, and these pins and said teeth are positively actuated by springy ton es to release the teeth -from the film 5 during the return movementof the slide. In thehigh'est position of the slide, said pins pass through gaps in the sprintgy tongues so that the teeth engage again in e film perforations.
The accompanying description and drawand a plan view, partly in improved drivinIg-gear apa side elevation section, of the 4 are sections respectively on the lines 33 and4-4of. i .1;Fig.5isasectionon the line 5-5 of ig. 4, as seen in the direction of arrow 0; while Figs. 6, 7 and 8 are 80 sections similar to that the slide in its difi'erent positions. Y
The. improved driving-gear comprises es-.
sentiallya disc 6 with acam-groove c which is engaged by a guide 13 of the lever k loosely engagesa verticallv reci rocable slide 1 which is provided with teeth In to effect an intermittent movement of the film m of,th 40 o. The teeth In form part of the slide, being merely extensions of said slide. Said slide 1 is guided behind an abutment-plate n, which is provided for said film.- To a free movement of said slide, the free end 0 i of the lever 11. passes through a guide slot 72 of the abutment-plate n 'while the teeth In pass through and move in correspondin slots 9 in said abutment-plate. The teeth are adapted to -engagiifiin the conventional To prevent the teeth In from sliding on the film m du the upward movement of the slide, the shde l is provided with pins-u which in the lowermost position of the slide 1, that is' when 55 its movement is reversed, are rearwardly slide Z by of the film. Th
illustrate a preferred embodiment of the'invention: Figs. 1 and 2 are respectively i e. 3 and shown in Fig. 5, with roller fjof a lever h, 3 fulcrumed at one end thereof, The free end e projection apparatus permit perforated films in pro ection apparatus engaged by 'springy'tonguest connected to the abutment-plate n. The slide is thus tilted, whereby the teeth k "are retracted from the film m so far that they do not come Y in contact therewith; during their upward movement. Said springy tongues t are provided with gaps 'v through'whichthe pins u are urged in the highest' position of thethe action. of a spring a encircling the free end i of the lever h. This causes the teeth to again engage the perforations ese tongues t constitute conmoving the feed means away on the up or return stroke oftrol means for from the film .the lever 72;.
The operation of the device is as follows:.
' In the lowermost position of the slide Z shown in Fig. 7,-the springy to es t liberate the pins to, sothat the SH e Z at the ll beginnin of its upward movement assumes the tilted position shown in Fig. 8. The 4 teeth In have then left the perforations in the film m as they are positively guided with their pins u along the outsides of the springy tongues t. As soon as the slide Z has reached its highest position (Fig. 5), the pins u of the teeth is are .urged through the ga s e;- of the springy tongues t by the action 0 the spring a and the teeth are causedto again enter the perforations r of the film m.
What I claim, is 5 I l 1. The combination, in driving-gear for perforated films in projection, apparatus, of a vertically reciprocable slide, teeth located on said slide and adapted to normally enter the film perforations,.a spring actin upon said slide and normally urging-sai teeth to enter said rforations, pins located on said slide, an spring tongues having gapstherein and adapted to act upon said pins" to cause said teeth to withdraw from the perforations during the return movev ment of the slide, said ga s rmitting a reentry of said teeth into t e lm perforations after said pins enter the gaps of said springy, tongues in the highest position of the shde.
2. Intermittent driving mechanism for comprising a lever having a stationary fulcrum, means adapted to oscillate said lever,
a feeding member mounted upon the free end of the said lever and movable with respect to said lever towards and away from" no the said 11m,- e spring adapted to normally the ,gaiid spring is monnted upon the said urge'the said feeding means into engagelever" zind'the said control means 'a're stament wlth the film, and control means adapttionary. l 10 ed to move .said feeding meansv away from In testimony whereof lhave hereuntoset- 5 said film upon the return movement. of the my lgand.
