Description

March 1,1927.
H. BREGMAN TOY PISTOL Filed June 50, 1925 downwardly at 7 and semi-circular flange plate is fixed to the Patented Mar. 1, 1927.
UNITED STA FFICB] ATENT HARRY BREGMAN, OF LOR-AIN', OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE STEEL STAMPING COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
TOY PISTOL.
Application filed June 30, 1923. Serial No. 648,778.
This invention relates to toy pistols, and has for its principal object to provide a toy pistol of simple and inexpensive construction, which will produce successive reports by pulling the trigger and repeating the same automatically upon the release of the trigger as the trigger returns to its original or normal position.
For a clear understanding of'the inven tion, the same will be hereinafter fully de scribed as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and the novel features thereof will be distinctly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings similar characters of reference are used to designate corresponding parts.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a toy pistol constructed in accordance with my invention, one side of the body being removed to better show the interior construction,
Fig. 2 is a rear end view of Fig. 1, the body being broken away, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view illustrating the semi'circular plate to which the flat spring is attached.
Referring to the drawings, 1 and 2 represent similar halves of the body of the pistol, which are preferably stamped from light sheet material and fixed together by spot welding as at 3 or in any other suitable manner. In each of the halves of the body is a circular depression as 4., and within one of said depressions is arranged a semi-circular. plate 5 having an inturned flange 6 at its upper edge, which flange is inclined upwardly at 8. The
body of the, pistol by lugs thereof indicated by 9 passing through openings at 10 of said plate, and to the downwardly inclined portion 7 of the flange thereof is fixed one end of a flat spring 11 by a rivet at 12.
A trigger 13 is pivoted at 14: between the halves 1 and 2 of the body of the pistol, a
slot at 15 being provided therefor, and its head 16 extends rearwardly and is provided with teeth 17 along its rear edge, which teeth are arranged on the arc of a circleand are adapted to engage the free end of the flatspring 11 as the trigger is actuated. A coil spring 18 of suitable strength is connected to a hook 19 at the bottom end of the head 16 of the trigger and to a lug 2O stamped from one of the halves of the body of the pistol, and the spring is adapted to return the trigger to its original or normal position upon being released. l Vhen the trigger is pulled, its teeth by engaging and acting upon the free end of the flat spring 11 forces upwardly said end of the spring and then permits same to fall in quick sucsession, thereby producing a series of cracking sounds or reports, and the same are automatically repeated upon releasing the trig- ,Q'er due to the teeth of the trigger engaging the free end of said flat spring in the reverse direction. The upwardly inclined portion 8 of the flange 6 of the semi-circular plate 5 permits said movement of the free end of the flat spring 11 and also provides an air space between same and said flat spring.
From the description and drawings, it is obvious that this toy pistol is of simple and inexpensive construction and will produce quick successive reports when the trigger is pulled and upon its release. It will be understood that slight changes in the details of construction may be made within the scope of the claims.
Having fully described my invention,
what I claim is:
1. In a toy pistol, the combination of a body, a plate fixed to the body, the plate having a flange extending at a right angle thereto, the flange having one portioninclined downwardly and its other portion'extending upwardly, a flat spring fixed to the downwardly inclined portion of the flange, a trigger pivotally supported by the body, and the trigger being provided with teeth for engaging the free end of said flat spring, substantially as described.
2. In a toy pistol, the combination of a body, a plate within the body and fixed thereto, the plate having a flange extending at a right angle thereto, the flange having one portion inclined downwardly and another extending upwardly, a flat spring fixed to the downwardly inclined portion of the flange, a trigger pivotally supported by the body, the trigger having teeth arranged on the arc of a circle for engaging the free end of said flat spring, and a'sprlng for returning the trigger to its original position, substantially as described.
