tape or elastic to be connected, and having' means which will permit of the ready sepafration of the device at one end, but will prevent accidental separation, and especially to i y provide a construction for this purposeV which will be very simple and inexpensive and involve no complicated parts projecting materially from the tapes or thelike to be connected. ,j
Reference is kto be had to the accompanying drawings, in which-l j Y Fig. lis a front view of a hose supporter shown with a preferred embodiment of this invention applied thereto;
' Fig. 2 is an edge View of the same; Y
Fig. 3 is a front View showing the connecter open for detachment;
Fig. 4 is a front view of the connecter itself on enlarged scale; and Y Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional View on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
I have shown the invention as applied for the purpose of connecting two pieces of tape 10 and 11, one preferably elastic and the other non-elastic, or of any other desired character. v v
It has been customary heretofore to'form loops in the adjacent ends of the two pieces to be connected by doubling themover on themselves andsewing the edge back to the body of the tape. This forms two parallel horizontal passages which have been connected by a pair of bars extending through them integrally connectedv together at one end and at the other end either having the two ends connected or else of such stiff material as to cause them to remain in fixed condition under all ordinary strains toY which the article is to be subjected, Vor else complicated devices have been employed when de-V tachability was desired. Y
This invention involves the use of the main part of the said wire 'and with a very simple detachable means thereon for securely holding the free end with respect to the other end of the wire and yet allowing it to be detached readily. f
, .The main part of the connecter comprises Y a wire 12 bent or doubled on itself to form two parallel bars 13 and 14. y The bar 13 is shown as a little shorter thanl the bar 14 and as having secured to it a sheet metal casing 15 which forms a permanent part of the bar Y 13. This casing is pressed on the end of the latter bar and is hollow throughout. Of itself it is of U-shape construction `with one leg longer than'the other, that is the one connected with the wire 12. The other leg is shorter andis open on its side adjacent tothe longer leg to. provide a longitudinal passage 16 for the reception of the end of the bar14 of the wire. This opening is long enough to extend'a little beyond the end of the wire bar 14. l
' It willV be seen that the casing 15 is firmly 1' and permanently vfixed onthe end of the wire and that the bar 14, which is ordinarily set to swingback as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4, can be bent down under the end of the short leg of the casing 15- until it springs into the opening 15. Then its own resiliency will hold it in that position. When it is desired to detach it, it is pushed down toward the other bar and pressed to the side, when it will automatically. spring back to Y the dotted line position. In this position the bar 13 preferably is secured through the loop in one of the tapes or elastics 10 by sewing the latter over it. It extends beyond the loop as clearly shown. The bar 14 is freed from the casing 15 and then put through the loop in the other tape or elastic 11.l 'When it is swung down into the full line position as shown in Figs. 1 and 4 it will hold the two parts 10 and 11 together as long as may be desired,'and there will be no tendency to spring apart or become detached at the free end. e j j Although I have illustrated and described sal onlyY oneform of the invention I am aware 1 of the fact that modiications can be madetherein by any person skilled in the art without departing from'the scope of the invention as expressed in the claim.
Therefore I donot wish to be limited to all the details of construction shown and described herein, but what I claim 1s:-
As an article of manufacture, a detachable Y also of .UA-shape, and having its longer leg; x-
edlyand permanently secured to the end of Vthe shorter loarefA the Wire, and the other Y parallel therewith, and open on Jhe inner side; whereby therlonger bar of the Wire Will be capable of being sprung into said opening, and when so'located VWill be held there.
n by the Sides of Juhe easngbeyond Jche openlng. f Y Y In testimony Whereolc I have hereunto afixed my signature.
