CEMENT MARKER.

The invention relates to cement markers and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprising a handle member having a plurality of substantially registering plates on opposite sides of a central plate, and between the forward ends of any of said plates, the ends of a looped marking blade may be held, thereby allowing the blade to be easily and quickly adjusted for scoring or marking lines of different widths, and the plurality of blades add considerable weight to the device, thereby insuring an even depth of score.

A further object is to bevel off the intermediate plates at their forward lower ends for allowing the looped knife to be adjusted for making a very shallow cut and the outer plates to limit the depth of out. Also to provide screws extending transversely through the plates and forming means whereby the plates may be securely clamped together for holding the ends of the looped knife against displacement.

With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of -the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the central plate of the marker, which plate is provided with an extension 2 at one end thereof, on which is disposed the member 3 adapted to be grasped by the operator during a cement marking operation. Disposed on opposite sides of the central plate 1 are plates 4:, two of which are shown on each side, however it is to be understood as many plates as desired may be used, how ever preferably two or more for allowing a wide range of adjustability to the bowed scoring knife 5, the arms 6 of which are disposed between any of the plates 1 and 4 according to the width of scored line desired to make. Arms 6 of the scoring knife are disposed between any of the forward ends of the. plates 1 and 4c and are securely held in adjusted position by means of transversely disposed screws 7, which extend through the plates 1 and 4 and are threaded at 8 in one of the outer plates 4, therefore it will be seen by simply loosening the screws 7 the arms 6 may be easily and quickly placed between any of the plates or removed therefrom. The intermediate plates 1 and l have their lower forward corners bevelled as at 9 for allowing free passage of material during the line scoring operation, and the bevelled corners 10 of the outer plates l limit the depth of the lines scored. In operation the device is preferably placed beside a straight edge or rule and drawn along the same, however it is to be understood it may be placed in engagement with an arcuate guiding member where an arcuate line is desired. Although the device has been described for use in connection with marking cement, it

is also understood it can be used for marking tile or in any other manner desired.

By providing the plurality of plates on opposite sides of the central plate 1 it is obvious a relatively wide range of adjustability can be obtained, thereby allowing the device to be adjusted for a relatively wide line or a relatively narrow line, according to the nature of the work. It will also be seen that the plurality of plates add sufficient weight to the marking end of the device to insure an accurate depth of cut during the scoring operation. and b providing registering plates, said plates can be easily and quickly stamped from sheets of metal or strips.

The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is The combination with a cement scoring device comprising a centrally disposed plate, a handle member carried by one end of said plate, of a plurality of plates engaging opposite sides of the first mentioned plate, securing and clamping screws extending transversely through all of said plates, a bowed knife, the arms of said bowed knife 5 being disposed between plates at opposite sides of the first mentioned plate, said plurality of plates and first mentioned plate being of varying thickness and forming means whereby the bow of the knife may be Varied. 10
