FOUNTAIN PEN.
Application led August 13, 1923.
My invention relates to fountain pens; and
the object of the in'iprovement is to provide a fountain pen having a conveniently removable pen-point so that different styles of penpoints may be used with the same barrel at the discretion of the Writer; or a new penpoint .may be substituted for the old penpoint when Worn out.
My improvement particularly contemplates the use of pen-points of gold7 but also of materials other than gold, thereby materially cheapening the cost of certain grades of fountain pens and at the same time providing meansfor renewing a corroded pen* point at small cost.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying draW- ings forming a part hereof, in Which- Figure l is a longitudinal cross section of the fountain pen showing my improved construction; and
Figs. 2, 3, and Il, are perspective views of the disassembled fountain penvparts;
Fig. 2, being the pen-point retaining col lar;
Fig. 3, being the penpoint; and
Fig. A, being 'a fragmentary section of the barrel.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the drawing.
Fountain pen 5 is made up of barrel 6, sere-W retaining collar 7 and pen-point 8. The pen-point 8 is preferably formed with a conical base 9 and a base flange l0. Upon assembling, the conical base fits over the ink conveyor 'll shaped to tit said conical base, and the pen-point is retained in place by the screw retaining` collar 'Z' which wedges the conical base down upon the cone shaped ink Serial No. 657,032.
conveyor and at the same time presses against the flange 10. A Washer 12 of any suitable material may be provided.
The construction of the invention obviously makes possible t-he easy changing of penpoints by any unskilled person, as distinguished from the skilled operative nonT required to change ordinary gold pen points in ordinary forms of fountain pens.
rlhc inlr conveyor l1 is preferably integral With the barrel 6 Which may be of any approved and Well known design. The barrel shown in the drawings is of the non-selffilling type, but a self-filling barrel may be used in connection With the invention.
I claim:
l. A fountain `pen having a barrel, a removable pen-point having a conical base, and removable internally coned means for retaining the pen-point on the barrel.
2. A fountain pen having a barrel, a removable pen-point having a conical base, and co-operating means for retaining the penpoint on the barrel.
3. A fountain pen having a barrel, a removable pen-point having a conical base and a flange, and cooperating conical means for retaining the pen-point on the barrel.
4;. A fountain pen having a barrel, a penpoint having a conical base and a flange, and co-operating means for retaining the penpoint on the barrel.
5. A fountain pen having a barrel, a coni cal ink conveyer on the barrel, a removable pen-point having a conical base on the conical ink conveyer, and means for retaining the pen-point on the conical ink conveyer.
