Application filed July 2,
This invention is an improvement in cold towel storage devices, and the invention relates more particularly to a device of the character specified of an ornamental nature, and adapted for use in high class barber shops, beauty parlors and the like.
In the usual practice, cold towels used for face massage are prepared by dippmg the towel in ice water and wringing out the excess.
One of the primary objects of the present invention is the provision of a devicefor cooling the towels and retaining them in a cold condition and ready for use without the necessity for dipping and wringing.
Another object is the provision of a device of the class described, having a normally closed cover, and means enabling lifting of the cover while leaving the hands of the operator free.
Another object is the provision of a simple inexpensive ornamental device sultable for use in high class establishments.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts fully described hereinafter, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out 111 the claims appended hereto, it belng understood that various changes in the form, proportlon, size and minor details of construction withln the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the sp1r1t of the i nvention.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of the improved device.
Fig. 2 is a plan view, with parts broken away.
In the present embodiment of the invention the improved device comprises a body, usually of cylindrical formation, and of jacketed construction, comprising an inner wall 1 and an outer wall 2, spaced apart from each other to form an annular chamber 3 therebetween, within which is arranged heat insulating material of a suitable character. The body is supported by a pedestal which includes a cylindrical tubular body portion 4: and an enlarged base portion 5.
A cover 6 is provided for closing the open top of the body, and the said cover its double walled or jacketed, in the same manner as the body. The cover is hinged at 7 to the body in any suitable manner, and 1t Wlll be 1926. Serial No. 120,077.
noticed referring to Fig. 1, that the top of the body is mitred or beveled as shown.
The pivot of the hinge connection between within the said body. The forward end of the lever is provided with a foot plate 10 for convenience in swinging the same, and the rear end is provided with laterally diverging arms 11, which are connected by links 12 with bracket plates 13 on the cover.
The arrangement of the lever and the links is such that when the forward end of the lever is depressed, the arms 11 are lifted, lifting the links 12, and the cover thus to enable access to the interior thereof, while leaving the hands of the operator free.
Means is provided for cushioning the closing movement of the cover. The said means is a dash pot, comprising a cylinder 14, in which is a piston connected by a rod 15 with the treadle or lever 8. The dash pot is arranged in front of the pedestal, and as is usual in such constructions a bypass of variable capacity is provided for enabling adjustment of the cushioning effect. In the present instance, the chamber within the body, which is designed to hold ice, upon which the towels may be stored, is provided with a central drain opening, normally closed by plug 16. The plug is a valve, operated to open and closed position by means of a valve stem 17.
In use, ice in suitable quantity is placed in the insulated chamber in the body. The towels may be placed upon the ice, or a suitable holder may be provided for the towels. l/Vhen a towel is desired, the lever is operated to raise the cover, giving access to the towel. As soon as the lever is released, the cover descends by gravity into closed position, the movement thereof being cush- 'ioned by the dash pot.
What is claimed .as new is:
1. A cold towel storage device, comprising a body and a pedestal for supporting Ill) the body in elevated position, said body having an insulated ice and towel storage cha1nher, and an insulated cover for the chamber hinged to the body, a lever extending transversely through the pedestal and pivoted thereto, links connecting the rear end of the lever with opposite sides of the cover for lifting the same when the front end of the lever is depressed, the cover arranged to close by gravity, and means to cushion the closing means of the cover arranged between the front end of the lever and that part of the body which extends beyond the pedestal, and within the circumference of the body.
2. A cold towel storage device, comprising a body and a pedestal for supporting the body in elevated position, said body l1aving an insulated ice and towel storage chamher, and an insulated cover for the chamber hinged to the body, a lever extending transversely through the pedestal and pivoted thereto, links connecting the rear end of the lever with opposite sides oi the cover for lifting the same when the front end of the lever is depressed, the cover arranged to close by gravity, a cylinder supported by the body between the bottom of the same and the lever and within the circumference of the body, and a piston in the cylinder connected with the lever for cushioning the closing movement of the cover.
Signed at Nt-tehawken in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey this 29th day of June, A. D. 1926.
