The object of the inventionis primarily to provide a window screen which will always be in nesting relation'eXcept when in use and further to provide means for tensioning it and effectively guiding .itat the side edges.
With this object in view, the invention consists in the construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

The invention is designed for use so that the window opening may be screened at the time of lowering the top sash 1 or raising the bottom sash 2, the screen .cooperating with the top sash being carried in a housing 3 disposed at the top of the window frame and that for cooperation with the lower sash being enclosed in a housing 4 disposed at the bottom of the window frame. So far as the screens themselves are concerned, their construetion'is identical and a description of one will slffice for both.
In the housing is mounted a spring-actuated roller 5 on which the screen 6 is reeled, being secured at one end tothe roller and at the other end being provided with a. metal.
plate 7 secured to the lower rail of the lower sash or the top rail of the upper sash, depending on whether it be used as a, screen `member for the upper or lower sash.
On the sides of the window frame are mounted the guides 8 which are of tubular form and provided with ears 9 for the reception of screws 10 to secure the guides in place. The guides are provided with longitudinal slots 11 traversed bythe edges of the screen I and interior to the guides the marginal bindings 12 are prov1ded, these consisting of spiral springs, vwith the separate coils of which the marginal edges of the screen 6 are engaged. 4
The springs 12 are tensioned sufficiently to provide enough transverse strain onthe screen 6 to retain it inflat condition and being dimensioned according to .the tubular guides, always retain the marginal edge of the screen in engagement with the guides, the springs sliding through the guides as the screens are reeled upon or. unreeled from the rollers 5.l
