In plumbing work, and particularly flush tank and bowlv connections, it frequently happens that the pipes or parts to be connected and sealed against leakage do not properly align, and in forcing alignment, as is sometimes done, injury to the tank and bowl connections often occurs. By reason of the fact that the pipingassociated with such structures is usually of frail character, forcing the same into proper alignment and connection increases the hazard of injury thereto as well as subsequent leakage or breakage. Again, in repair work where it becomes necessary to remove the bowl, it has heretofore been necessary to shut oili the water supply and-drain t-he system preliminary to dismantling the fixtures. rllhis dismantlingwork includes disconnection of the pipes between the tank and bowl with the risk of breaking theV same and managing the bowl bib and flush tank connection, and 'l'requently it is required that the flush tank ilself be taken down.v The work and expense incident to these operations are at once apparent.
It is the primary object of the present invention to provide means whereby the flush water connection between the tank and bowl may be readily and effectively made notwithstanding that the bowl and tank connection may not be in true alignment. The invention further contemplates means whereby the bowl may be removed wholly independent of the tank, not requiring shutting ofi' of the water supply or even draining the flush tank, and not requiring disconnection of the water supply pipe leading to the tank or vdanger of injury either Ato this connection or the flush water pipe `connection at its introduction to the tank.
The invention further Vcontemplates the employment of a slip-joint, by the use of which plumbing fixtures such as referred to may be readily installed with a minimum of effort and at a great saving of time, and wherein proper sealed joints in the pipe connections are assured.- It is further contemplated that with the use of the invention `as hereinafter Vset forth, the repair work may be quickly and effectively carried out at a gi at saving of work, time and material and without the exercise of skill not ordinarily possessed by the average plumbing mechanic.
llith these objects in view, together with others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination' and arrangements of parts, all as will be described more fully hereinafter', illustrated in the drawings and particularly pointed out in the claims.

As statedr heretofore the rimar adantation of the invention is in the connection between the flush tank and the bowl, and as it will be understood that various types of bowls and tanks are employed, the inven-' tion is equally adaptable to one as to the has connected with its lower end the-usual flush water discharge pipe represented at (l, the latter having a right angular bend 7 near its lower end which is to be brought into communication with the interior of the bowl 5. To this end, thebowl 5 has anchored or in anypreterred manner secured therein a connector in'the form of a spud repre sented at 8. These spuds may take any one of a number 4of forms, the present illustrationbeing conventional. These spuds are secured in water tight connection at their inner ends within the porcelain bowl 5, while their louter extremities are threaded exteriorly for'the accon'nnodation of a packing nut represented at 9.
Ordinarily, the lower end ol the tube lor pipe G is inserted within the outer portion of the spud 8, and the nut 9 isthen tightened so asto pack the joint in a water tight connection. As has heretofore been stated there are many objections to this manner of establishing the connection.
In carrying out the invention, the spud 8 is coupled to the lower end of the pipe 6 by means of a connecting tube or pipe ndicated at l0. This pipe 'is of a similar diameter to the pipe 6 and the interior of Q an,
the spud 8, and is preferably of a metal corresponding in thickness and linish with the down pipe 6. The tube 10 may be of any desired length, and may be furnished in certain prescribed sizes to be cut ott' it desii-ed to adapt the saine to a specific job ot' work. lhe outer extremity or the coupling -pipe l() is 'dared slightly so as to receive the lower end ot pipe, (3 in comparative snug engagement, and the enter surface ot the pipe lt) at this enlarged part is threaded as at 11 tor the accominodation ot the threads ot a conventional type ot packing nut indicated a; i2. 'lhis nut is et standard size and construction, and is similar in all respects to the nut l). To facilitate manipulation of the parts in applying or detaching the connector 1U, the exterior sin-'tace o't' the said connector may be made square or hexagonal as indicated at l?) 't'or application ot a wrench thereto.
W'itb the use o't a connector ot this character, it is at once apparent that a union of the pipe (l with the bib 8 may readily be made notwithstanding that the bowl and tank may be further apart than the standard littings would permit ot connecting. li"urtherniore, the angular lower end o't the tube 6 may not be in exact alignment with the bib, and yet with the present connector a union ot these parts may be readily established without straining, distorting or twisting either the down pipe or the bib. 'When it is desired to connect the parts, the smaller end ot the connecting tube l0 is inserted in the bib while the outer or larger end encloses the angular end o' the down pipe tl. vWith the parts thus assembled, the packing nuts 9 and l2 are tightened, so that a secure and water tight connection is established between the bib and the down pipe. l-iny unevenness or irregularity will be compensated for in this connection without damage, injury or strain upon any ot' the standard parts. lt will be understood, of course, that flush water pipes oi this connection are ordinarily ora frail structure, precluding material bending or twisting Without danger of breakage or cracking of the pipes or injury to the connections thereof.
lt will be noted that the flared portion otl the outer end ot the connector l() is of appreciable depth. This is to permit ot the said end being slid longitudinally of the lower end out pipe 6 to permit ot easy adjustment in assembling the device as Well as in detaching operations. In making the detachment, the packing nuts 9l2 are iirst loosened, and may be backed until olf the threads of the parts with which they cooperate. rlhe connector l0 may then easily be slid outwardly so that its inner end becomes disengaged from Within the bib 8. rlhis sliding movement is permitted by the depth oi' the flared portion at the outer end oi the tubular connector. lt is obvious, therefore, that asseniblage and dismantling of the parts may be readily carried out without in any way straining or forcing either the bib or the water pipe G.
lv'hile the above is a description of the iiwention in its pre't'erred embodiment, it will be understood that variations in the minor details ot' construction, assen'iblage and arrangement ot parts may be resorted to without departing trom the spirit et the invention as deiined by the claims.
Having thus described my invention, l claim:
1. The combination with apipc end and a bib in lixed position relative to each other; of a` connector comprising a tubular member el exterior diameter tor the greater part ot its length corresponding to the interior dian'ieter ot tl e bib and adapted to engage within the latter, the opposite end ot the said tubular member being enlarged, inwardly trom its extremity al depth greater than the extent to which the first mentioned end ot the tubular member extends Within the bib, the said enlarged end adapted to lit over and snugly engage the said pipe, and packing nuts for connecting the said ends to the bib and pipe respectively.
2. ln combination, a Water vsupply pipe having a smooth exterior surface at one end and a bib having a smooth internal surface, and threads upon its exterior suriace;said pipe and bib being fixed relative to each other, a connector con'iprising a` tubular member of exterior diameter for the greater part oi its length corresponding to the internal diameter of the bib and adapted for sliding lit Wit-hin the same, the opposite end ot said connector enlarged upon its interior surface to correspond with the external diameter' olf said Water supply pipe and adapted to slidingly receive said pipe, the said internal enlargement ot said connector being ot greater' length than the extent to which the irst mentionet end of the connector extends Within the bib, threads upon the exterior of said enlarged end or". the connector, and packing nuts engaged 'with the threads of said bib and said enlarged end of the connector.
