CHRISTMAS-TREE FENCE.

Application filed February 13, 1925.

This invention relates to a toy fence designed to be used with Christmas trees and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the fence can be easily assembled and disassembled so that it can be easily set up and then after use taken down and stored in a small space.

Another object of the invention is to provide means whereby the. portions are frictionally held together so thatit is not necessary to use bolts, screws orother fastening means for detachably connecting the parts together.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation showing a portion of the improved fence.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View through a post and adjacent fence sections.

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view through the slotted portion of a post and showing portions of the fence sections in plan.

As shown in these views, the fence is composed of a plurality of sections A, the posts B and a pair of gate sections C. The sections A and C are each composed of a pair of horizontal strips 1, preferably of channel shape in cross section and the inverted U- shaped wires 2 which have their limbs passing through holes in the strips 1. One U- shaped wire overlaps the next U-shaped wire so as to produce a fence which is similar to real fences now on the market. Each gate section may be provided with the wire 3 which is much wider than the other wire and which has one limb longer than the other so as to produce the upper projections 3 at the inner edge of each gate section. Each post is preferably of rectangular shape in cross section and comprises a body f, an ornament cap 5 connected with the upper end of the body and the flanges 6 at the lower end of the body which are perforated so that the posts can be tacked Serial No. 8,993.

or otherwise fastened to a floor or other surface. Each face of each post is provided with a slot 7 which is designed to receive the tangs 8 formed on the ends of the sections A so as to connect the fence sections with the posts. Each tang is provided with a boss 8 so that the tang will frictionally engage the walls of the slot and thus frictionally hold the parts together and permit them to be easily separated when desired.

In some cases'it may be desirable to attach a post permanently to a fence section and when this is desired the tangs can be bent downwardly after being passed through the slots in the post, as shown at 9, and in this case it is not necessary to emboss the tang. When this is done, the post is pernianently connected with one fence section but is detachably connected with the other fence section. By forming the slots in all four faces of the posts each post can be used as a corner post as well as a line post so that it is not necessary to have dirferent kinds of posts in setting up a fence.

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a tree fence which can be manufactured to sell at low cost and the portions of which can be easily and quickly set up and taken apart and stored in a small place. The fence will be of attractive design and will add very much to the appearance of the grounds under a Christmas tree and the like.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several .parts, provided that such changes fall with-- in the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is g In a fence, a hollow post member having opposed slots in the walls thereof, fence sections including horizontally disposed channel shaped strips, reduced tangs at the ends of said strips adapted to be inserted in said slots, and centrally disposed longitudinal bosses formed in said tangs and extending longitudinally thereof for frictionally engaging the walls of the slots to hold the parts together. 7
