UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDGAR HOWARD TTINLEY, OF BROOKLYN, NEEV YORK, ASSIGNOR PICKW'ICK MANU- FACTURING C0., INC., OF BROOKLYN,
NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
SWING TOY.
Application led Aug-ust 28, 1925. Serial No. 53,178.
This invention relates to toys such as swings, teeters, and the like.
Hitherto in manufacturing toys of the character mentioned, aside from the amount of material put `into a toy'and the manner in which it is used, the time and labor required for the production of the toy makes the toy comparatively expensive. It 1s therefore the prime object of the present invention to produce a toy of the character mentioned having novel features of construction capable of being produced in large .s substantially on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank from which the top is formed.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the suspension frame is formed.
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the blank fromr which the seat platform is formed.
Referring now more particularly to the several views of the drawing, it will be apparent that the toy of the present invention consists of a structure 10 and a swingable support 11 associated with the structure 10, the latter being stationary when the toy is in use. The structure 10 comprises a base 12 and a frame 13. The frame 13 comprises side members 14 attached as at 15 to the base 12, and a transverse member 16 which connects the side members 14, said transverse member 16 having a cross sectionally round portion 17 and portions 1S disposed at an angle with respect to said round portion at the opposite ends thereof respectively. The support 11 comprises a platform 19, a suspension frame 2O and a top 21. The platform 1S) is stamped, bent and formed from a single piece of material, preferably metal, to provide a central section 22, a seat 23 at each end of the central section 22, and attaching pieces 24 respectively at the opposite sides ofV the central section 22 at the middle thereof. VHoles 25 are provided in the seats to accommodate portions respectively on figures such as the figures 26 shown in Figs. 1 and 2 which will be held in place by virtue of the portions on the figures being twisted so as to be disposed crosswise of said holes 25. The suspension frame 20 is stamped, bent and formed from a single piece of material, preferably metal, to provide a central section 27 having bendable members 28 each of which has bendable portions 29, sides 30 having diverging members 31 connected by a member 32. Edge portions of the diverging members 31 of each side merge into a circular portion 33. Each member 32 has bendable portions 34 and 34. The top 21 is stamped, bent and formed from a single piece of material,
preferably metal, to provide a plate 35 having holes 36 therein and flanges 37. The platform 19 is associated with the suspension frame 20 by the engagement of the attaching pieces 24 respectively over the members 32 and the engagement of the bendable portions 34 and 34 respectively over portions of the central section 22. The top 21 is associated with the suspension frame 20 by virtue of the members 23 and their bendable portions 29 respectively being engaged over the plate 35, the said portions 29 being extended respectively through the holes 36. In associating the structure 10 with the support 11, the frame 13 will have its member 16 extended between the diverging members 31 of the sides 30'transversely thereof so that the circular portions 33 may rest on the portion 17. The support 11 is thus swingingly mounted on the portion 17, while the portions 18 limit the lateral movement of the support 11.
I claim:
1. A toy of the character described comprising a stationary supporting structure, a seat support having a figure on each of its seats, and a top, the seat support swingingly mounted on the stationary structure, and the top carried by the seat support over the same and movable therewith.
2. A swing toy comprising a base, a frame comprising side members attached to the base, a transverse member connected to the side members, the transverse member having a cross sectionally round portion and portions disposed at an angle with respect to said round portion at the opposite ends thereof; a support comprising a platform, a suspension traine, and a top, the platform being stamped, bent and formed from a singie piece of material to provide a central section, a seat ateach end oi' the central section, and attaching pieces at each side of the central section; said suspension ranie being stamped, bent and iorlned 'from a single piece of material to provide a central section having bendable portions, sides having,` diverging members connected by a ineinber havingl bendable portions, edge portions of the dii/'erging members of each side merging into a circular portion; said top being stamped, bent and formed l'roin a single piece of material to provide a plate having openings therein and side flanges; the attaching pieces ot the platiforin being engaged respectively over the connecting nielnf bers of said sides with the bendable portions of the sides respectively being engaged over the central section of the platiorni, the bendable portions ot' the central section oi the suspensionv 'frame being` engaged over said plate by Virt-ue of the openings in said plate, the circular portions oi' the sides restingl on said cross sectionally round portion ot said first fraine to allow swinging;` niovenient oiI the support, said portions disposed at an angie with respect to said cross sectionally round portion limiting,` the lateral inoyenient of said support.
