A. J. cHEvRETTE BOBBIN SUPPORT FOR WEFT REPLENISHING MECHANISM Filed August 14, 1925 fidi Patented Nov. 30, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTIN fr. CHEVRETTE, `or WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, `ASSIGNOR To CROMP- TON & KNOWLES LOOM WORKS, or WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
BOBBIN SUPPORT FR WEET-REPLENISHING MECHANISM.
Application filed August 14, 1925. Serial No. 50,329.
This invention relates to improvements in bobbin supports for weft replenishing mechanisms of the multi-color' type and an object of the invention is to provide a support with a giveway the end of which may yield in any angular direction wit-hrespect to the supporting structure.
In replenishing mechanisms of the type referred to bobbins are released from' one of vseveral vertical.compartments` and guided along supports to transfer position just prior to the descent of the transferrer arm. It sometimes happens that the bobbin moves toward transfer position'irregularly and is struck by the arm before being `properly placed.` When this occurs itis desirable that the Support yield to prevent breakage andit is accordingly a further object of my invent-ion to provide a support so constructed that it will yield downwardly under the pressure of an improperly placed bobbin.
It also occasionally happens that a bobbin will be improperly transferred into a shut` tle and as it is carried rearwardly by the lay will project to engage the fgiveway, and to prevent breakage under such conditions the support is so made as to yield upwardly or laterally when engaged by a misplaced bobbin.
With these and other objects in view which will appear as the description proeecds, my invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings wherein I have shown a convenient embodiment of my invention,
Fig. 1 is a vertical section through a multi-color weft replenishing mechanism looking toward the center of the loom and having my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section through the improved giveway.
Fig. 3 is a rear end elevation of the support and its holder looking in the direction of arrow 3, Fig 1, and
Fig. 4 is a detail elevation of the yielding nose.
Referring more particularly to the drawings it will be seen that I have provided a weft replenishing frame 10 having a plurality of guideways 11 in which bobbins normally await transfer. The bobbins are delivered one at a time by devices not shown to move to transfer position under the trans ferner arm 12. A guideway 13 is pivotally mounted at the bottom of a linlr lll shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 and loosely mounted on a lined tie rod 15. The guideway 13 has a rearwardly and upwardly extending arm 16 which has pivotal connection as at 17 with a link 18 pivoted at19 to some fined part of the replenishing mechanism. A Spring L0 serves to hold the guideway 13 in the position shown in Fig. 1. The matter thus `far described isv of common construe tion and for further description reference may be had to Patent No. 1,030,748 and Patent No. 1,366,950.
My improvements relate more particulan ly to the outer Support for the rear side of the bobbin and in carrying out my improvements I provide a bracket 30 adjustably held to the tie rod by set screw 31. Said bracket has a Split hub 32 across which extend screws 33 serving to tighten the Same. `The support proper, as shown in the drawings, comprises two solid members yieldingly held together by a "flexible intermediate member. The rear holding member 34 extends through the split hub and is adjustable longitudinally therein and as shown in Fig. 2 has a reduced threaded forward end 35.
Spaced from the holding member 34: is a bobbin supporting nose 36 having a rearwardly extending reduced threaded end 37 similar to the reduced end 35. A tightly wound coil spring 38 is screwed unto the ends and 37, the pitch 'of the threads of said ends being the same as that of the coils of the spring so that the latter fits tightly on said threaded ends. Said spring 38 is stifl:l enough to hold the nose 36 normally in the position shown in Fig. 1 but at the time of bobbin transfer said nose will be moved downwardly to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. Should the bobbin be improperly transferred so as to project above the shuttle as the same moves baclrwardly with the latter the nose will .be move upwardly to the position shown atin Fig. 2. In making the support I find it convenient to turn the nose 36 integral with the holding member 34 and cut the threads on the same at one operation after which the two parts may be separated. This ope-ration insures that the axes of the two parts of the support will be coincident and that the threads Will be the same.
Fromthe foregoing it will be seen that YI have provided a very simple bobbinpsupport I the yielding portion of Which isrinovable in all angular directions with respect to the .supporting .structure and that the support,
1s symmetrical about the longitudinal axis thereofV so as to be operable in any angular position With respect to the bracket 30.
Having thus. described: my inventioniit AWill be apparent thatl changes and modifica tions may be lmade therein by those skilled in the art Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and I do` not Wish to belimite'd to thedetails herein disclosed, but what I claim is n Y flu: In a weftreplen-ishing mechanism, a bobbin support mounted onp'the mechanism comprisimgV a pair of spaced members each of which has Vthreadedportions and acoil spring located between said members and support for the', other of said members, said other member being supported entirely by the spring;
A 3. In a bobbin support for loom weft replenishing mechanism comprisingl a pair of spaced `members' each provided With a threaded portion anda coil spring having the ends thereof received by the threads or' the thr'eiuledportions, one ofsaid members being supported entirelyfby said spring. y 4. A bobbin support Vfor loom` weft re- ,plenishing mechanism comprising a pair of spaced members each'haviiig a reduced portion providedivith threads, and aspring the successive coils of Which are spaced the same asI the threads of the reducedlportions, the ends of said lspring being. received by the portions andv being threaded thereon to prevent longitudinal relative movement of the members and the; spring.
5. In aloom .weft replenishing mechal nism, supporting structure forming part oi the replenishing mechanisim a bobbin support formed of two spaced members one of Which is held vby the supporting structure, and a resilient device' having yholdingeontact With both members to hold them in spaced relation and serving as the only supl port for'the other of said members.VV
6. A bobbin support for loom vvet replenishing mechanism, rsaid support comprising a pair of spaced members `and a resilient device connecting the members together so that said members are relatively i',fieldable5 one of said members beingvsupported entirely by the resilient device kWhen the other member is secured Vto supporting structure Y f In testimony whereof I have hereunto at fixedmy signaturem ,Y
