Description

JGSEP IWIGFARLAND, OE BU'RLHGTON, NGRTECARQLNA, lJR., F
SSXGNGR OE UNE JALF roma-nonnina Yorin.
lApplication filed January 14, 1626. .Serial No.. 8?.,331.
rlliis invention relates to` a torni holding yoke and .has relation more particulariyto a device of this general character especially designed andadapted torusein mintaining in desired assembly theformstor molding concrete columns and the like.
it isan object of the invention to provide a yoke of this kind which maybe readily and conveniently adjusted in accordance .with the requiren'ients olpractice, and which, when not inruse, may be folded or compacted to occupy a minimum of space to facilitate either' storage orshipment.
The invention consistsin vthe ,details construction and in the combination and arrangementxo't the severalparts ol my improved form holding yokewhereby certain important advantages .are Iattained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous if use, as will be hereinafter more fully set novelfeitures of my invention will hereinafter be delinitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the d -will now proceed to de- `th reterence to the accom- Ting drawing, wherein .Figure l is a fragmentary view in elevation oi a column form having applied there to several yokes constructed in accordance with an eniliiodiment or my invention;
T .is an enlarged view partly in sccily in top plan illustrating' one fed yal-'ges in applied position,
ntary view nar-tlv i .y in section illustrat in detail the structure of an end portion of one of the holding members as herefn emjg-lOyGCl.
As herein disclosed, my improved yoke comprises two holding members A of duplicate construction but reversely arranged when in assembled relation and two spacingl members B also of duplicate construction and in reverse assembly when in applied position.
Each oi the members A comprises two elongated strips l arranged one above the other and in spaced relation and having interposed between adjacent ends a spacer block 2. rlhe opposite end portions of the member 1 have pivotally connected therewith through the `mediuin ot the rivet 3 or the like the :t ee
end portions ol the side arms 4 of a substai1- tially 1S-shaped member 5, the intermediate portion or" the member 5 being positioned a predetermined distance beyond the adjacent ends oi"I the members l so that, the member is capable of swinging movementwvith respect to the associatedl membersvl.
Extending between the arms lof `the members 5 adjacent the intermediate or baseportion thereof is a threaded shank 6 having threaded on lthe outer. end portion thereof anat 7 provided with an yoperating handle 8. This nut 7 is adapted to bear upon the outer side of the inemler A5 and is prevented from complete displacement vwith respect to the shank 6 byva Cotter pin 9 orlthelike disposed` through the shank 6 at a desired point outwardly of the applied nut 7.
The opposite or inner endvportion of the shank 6 is provided with an eye member l0 which` is freely ydisposed through an end portion ot' a spacing membersB. This member B comprises an lelongated dat bar of idesired length and when, theyoke is in applied position, the outer or tree end portion of the bar is disposed between the strips l of the secoul member A inwardly oit the spacer block 2. T his member B is provided therealong with a series of spaced openings 1l through which is adapted to be selectively inserted a pin l2, said pin 12 when applied coacting with the outer side of the second member A.
In applying one of my improved yokes to a form F, the member B operatively engaged with one member A is freely disposed through the strips l oit the second member A whereby the members A and B may be readily and quickly adjusted to have close contact with the walls of the form, after which the pins l2 are properly applied.
To further increase the etiiciency of the yoke upon the form, the requisite turning oit the nut 7 will result in the members A being brought into tight contact with the form. p
It is also to be understood in practice that adjacent forms are preferably in quarter relation as illustrated in Figure l whereby the form at all points is effectively held and braced by the yokes.
lhen the yoke is not in use. a member B may be readily swung into closed position alongside of a member A so that they will lim lilo
occupy a minimum of space and which is of particular importance for storage or ship ment and also in handling.
It will also be understood that the mem bers 5 readily permit the spacing members B to be arranged at varying angles with respect to the members A as the occasions of practice may demand and also permits the use of more than two sets of members A and B when it is desired to brace or hold a mold having more than four sides or in the event such mold or form should be circular.
From the foregoing description it is 'thought to be obvious that a form holding yoke constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to beV understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice eXcept as'hereinafter claimed.
l, A form yoke comprising a plurality of units adapted to interlock, each of said units comprising a holding member having a slot extending lengthwise thereof a` U-shaped member having side arms pivotally connect- `ed with one end portion of the holding mem-- ber, a shank disposed between the side arms Y of said U-shaped member outwardly of the adjacent end of the holding` member, a retaining means engaged with the outer portion of `said shank, an elongated member having a hinged connection with the inner end portion of the shank, the free end por tion of the elongated member of onel unit being adapted to be freely inserted through the slot ofthe holding member of a second unit, and a second retaining member engageable with said elongated member outwardly of the holding" member of the second unit.
2. A formyoke' comprising a plurality of units adapted to interlock, each of said units comprising a holding member having a slot extending lengthwise thereof, a VU-shaped member having side arms pivotally connected with one end portionof the holding member, a shank disposed between the Vside arms ofV said U-shaped member outwardly of the adjacent end of the holding member, a retaining nieans'engaged with the outer portion of said shank, an elongated member having a hinged connection with the inner end portion of the shank, the free end portion of the elongated member of one unit being adapted to be freely inserted through the slot of the holdingmember of a second unit, said elongated member being provided with a series of longitudinally spaced openings, and a second retaining member selectively insertible through said openings at a point outwardly of the holding member of the second unitl` l ln testimony whereof I hereunto my signature.
