COLLAPSBLE SEWING BASKET.

Application led January My invention relates to baskets more particularly to a collapsible sewing basket and the objects of my invention are:

First, to provide a sewing basket which is collapsible and may be positioned flat for shipping purposes.

Second, to provide a sewing basket which is flexible and supported at the top by means of a cord so that the size of the basket at the top may be varied as desired.

Third, to provide a sewing basket of this class with variously shaped pockets for sewing material, buttons, scissors and the like, all secured to the interior of the outer side sections of the basket.

Fourth, to provide a novelly constructed basket to be used for sewing purposes and- Fifth, to provide a basket of this class which is very simple and economical` to make, durable, efficient, practical and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.

` Vith these and other objects in View as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawingsA and to the characters of reference thereon which form' a part of this application, in which:

Figure l, is a top or plan view of my bas ket shown in its collapsed or flat form showing certain portions broken away to facilitate the illustration. Fig. 2 is a side elevational View of the same when folded into basket form ready for use as a basket. Fig. 3 is a sectional View on an enlarged scale through 3 3 of Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a de. tailed side elevational view ofone of the reinforcing members for reinforcing the side sections, and Fig. 5 is a similar view to that of Fig. l showing .a fragmentary portion of the basket in a slightly modified form from that of the other views of the drawings.

Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout `the several views of the drawings.

The inner fabric l, outer fabric 2, pockets 3, 4 and 5, reinforcing members 6, button pocket 7, scissors pocket 8, pin cushion 9, central and bottom portion 10, takeup cord ll, and eyelets l2l constitute the principal parts and portions of my sewing basket.

of a circular piece of fabric 1, another cir cular piece of fabric of the' same size 2, placed one upon the other and positioned between these two fabric members l and 2 in the center is a reinforcing member a, preferably cardboard which is heXagon shaped, positioned on the. six sides of said heXagon shaped member 10a are six mem-1 bers 6 as shown best in Fig. 4 of the draw.- ings which are reinforcing members, preferably cardboard and positioned between said fabric members around the outer edge, then the two members l and 2 are sewed together, alongI the outer edge of member y 10 and around each of the members 6 as shown best in Fig. l of the drawings. The outer edge is then provided with a bindingla. Thus in the fiat position is shown a circular member with cardboard reinforcing. Positioned on three of these sections are pockets, 3, 4 and 5 which are also preferably of fabric in ruffled form and each provided with an elastic band, 3a, 4a and 5a, tending to hold the pockets closed at their open sides and each is provided centrally with a bow 3b, 4-b and 5b, which is adapted for a hold member to facilitate the opening of the Outer side. On one of the sections is mounted a pin cushion 9, which is secured thereto. One of the sections is provided with a plurality of ribbons 8a, spaced apart from each other and secured at the middle at 8b, thus forming pockets for scissors or the like and the section `7 is provided with another cardboard member 6, covered with fabric on both sides 7a and 7h and with binding around the same and with fabric at each side connect-ing with the inner `portion l and folding toward the middle, forming a tight pocket for buttons, each of the members 7 and the section upon which it is mounted is provided with a ribbon 7 C and 7 which are adapted to be tied together forming a closure for the button pocket member. Secured near the edge of each of the pockets is an'eye member l2, through which the cord 11 extends, thus providing a takeup cord for drawing the upper portion of the basket together to the position desired as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the space between the outer sections extending outwardly in loop form, the ends of the 'cord are tied together, thus forming a substantial basket for sewing purposes, which may be opened out flat to getat the contents of the basket better or .for shipping purposes.

In the modified form of construction shown in F ig. 5 of the drawings the fabric Jetween the various outer sections is cutaway leaving an open space and each of the sections is provided with binding around its outer edge, the construction,otherwise, be ing the same as that shown and described in Figures l to l inclusive.

Though I have shown and described a particulary construction, combination and ar rangement of parts and portions and a certain modification thereof, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement nor to the modification but desire to include in the scope of my invention, the construction, combination, and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims:

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

`Il. In a collapsible basket, a polygon shaped central member, a plurality of stiff sections flexibly connected to the outer sides of said polygon shaped member, eye members secured near vthe outer edges of said Vsection and extending inwardly therefrom and a cord through saidV eye members, adapted to pull said "sections toward each other forming a basket structure, a plurality kof pockets `in connection with the inner sides `of some `of said outer sections with elastic gathering members near the open sides of said pockets tending to holdthe pockets closed, and a reinforced member hingedly connected to one of said outer sect-ionsnear its inner edge, provided with flexible side members vforming a pocket between `said hinged member .and the main section mem* ber and ribbons connecting the outer edges together'.

2. VIn a collapsible sewingbasket, an outer fabric member, an inner fabric member, a

central reinforcing member positioned between said fabric member and the fabric members sewed together around said central reinforcing member, a plurality of outer reinforcing members positioned between said fabric members attheir outer sides and sewed around their vouter edges, and the fabric members sewed-together at their outer edges, a plurality of eye members secured-to the inner surfaceof the inner main fabric member n ear the outer edOe and cord run through said eye members adapted to draw the outer sections together forming a basket.

3. In a collapsible sewingbasket, an outer fabric member, lan inner fabric member, a central reinforcing member positioned between said 'fabric members and the fabric members sewed togetherfaround said central reinforcing member, a plurality of outer reinforcing members positioned between said fabric members 'atl their outer sides landv sewed aroundtheir outer edges, and the fabric members vsewed together at their outer edges, a plurality of keye members secured to the inner surface `of =the inner main fabric member near the outer edge, cord run through saideye rmembers adapted to draw the outer sections together forming abasket, and variously formed pockets secured on the inner surfaces ofthe outer sections.
