My invention relates to electric fixtures and more particularly to electric fixtures used for street lighting. In the lighting of streets by means of lamps above the roadway it is desirable to project the light as far forward and backward along the road as possible but it is unnecessary and undesirable to project the light to a greater d1stance sidewise than is sutficient to light the m roadway.
In the case of an angular road it is desirable that the light rays in either direction should be projected in directions corre sponding to the angle of the roadway in order to properly illuminate the street in both directions.
In my invention I have accomplished the desired results and it has for one of its obj ects to provide an electric street lighting device which will distribute to the best advantage the light from the lamp with which it is used.
A further object-of my invention is to provide an electric lighting fixture in which reflectors are arranged to project a light for a considerable distance along the roadway in both directions and in which the reflectors are adjustable and may be angularly disposed in relation to each other to properly illuminate angular streets or roads.
Another object of my invention is to provide a street lighting fixture having a convenient means for inserting or removing the lamp used therewith. i

Referring now to the drawingsv in detail, in my invention as illustrated, vI providea FIXTURE 1922. Serial No. 568,126.
bracket 10 arranged to be secured to a mast armor other suitable supporting member 11. In the present instance the bracket is threaded and supported by being screwed on the mast arm as illustrated in Fig. 3. The bracket is provided with an upwardly extending arm 12 arranged to support the lamp socket and a downwardly extending arm 13 arranged to support the reflectors 1 1- and 15. The reflectors 1 1 and 15 are riveted to the U-shaped arms 16 and 17 respectively which are pivotally supported on the bracket arm 13 by means of the'bolt 18 therethrough. The upper portions of the reflectors lt and 15 are substantially semiparabolic in form while the lower portions are in the'torm of walls extending downwardly and outwardly from the parabolic portions, the U-shaped arms 16 and 17 be ing riveted to the outwardly extending portions as shown in Fig. 2. The reflectors are so positioned relative to each other that the filament of the lamp 19 will be at thefocal point of both reflectors, the axes of the parabolas passing through the filament of the lamp and inclined downwardly and outwardly as indicated in Fig. 1..
The reflectors 14 and 15 are formed at their inner ends to provide substantially semi-circular portions 20 and 21 respectively around the lamp opening 21 and are provided with the overlapping vertical wing portions 22 and 28 respectively. The overlapping wing portions as shown in Fig. 2 are arranged to close the space between the reflectors at the sides of the lamp when the reflectors are in parallel relation and to keep the opening closed except when the reflectors are moved to theirextreme angular position. hen the reflectors are turned to their extreme angular position there will be a small opening between theoverlappmg portions 22 and 23 which will be shielded by means of the downwardly extending bracket arm 13 and the upwardly extending arm 2& on the opposite side. 7
It will be noted that in the construction as illustrated and described, the reflectors may be moved to any desired angle and still retain the filament at the focal point of the semi-parabolic reflectors and the reflectors may then be securely held in the desired position by tightening the bolt 18.
The lamp 19 is supported in an insulating socket .255 which isin turn supported in the socket receptacle base 26 which is secured to the upwardly extending arm 12 on the supporting bracket 10.
It is often desirableto use the lighting fixture as illustrated in series lighting cir cuits, and I therefore provide socket and socket supporting means, as illustrated in detail in F 4 and 5, and I provide a screw shell 27 in the socket 25 and which is secured to the contacting blade 27 by means of the screws 28. The center contact 29 is secured to the contacting blade 30 by means of the center screw 31, the center contact and the screw 31 being insulated from the threaded shell 26 by means of the insulating member 32. The center contact 29 is preterably in the form of a U-shaped spring member as shown in Fig. l, one 01 the 33 of the center contact 29 resting upon and engaging the turned-in portion 34: of the threaded shell Contact 27, thus closing he circuit between the center contact and the shell when the lamp is removed from the socket. lVhen the lamp is screwed into the socket the leg 33 of the center contact member is pushed away from the intnrned lug 34- on the threaded shell thus breaking the circuit and allowing the lamp to be lighted.
The socket is provided with an insulatin cap 35 which is held in place by means or the screws 36 which also assist in holding the threaded shell 27 in place as shown in Fig. 9. The contacting blades 27 and 30 are separated from each other and extend 35 outwardly and downwardly at the side of the socket as shown in Fig. 4.
The downwardly extending portions 37 and 38 are separated from each other under tension by means of the filament cutout 39. lVhen the lamp filament is burned out the fuse cutout 39 will also burn out causing the downwardly extending arms 37 and 33 to contact and thereby short circuiting the socket and allowing the other lamps in series to remain lighted.
The socket receptacle base 26 is arranged to receive the downwardly extendingcontacting arms 37 and 33 and is provided with the spring contact members 40 and i1 secured to the binder plates 42 and 43 respectively.
The spring; receptacle contact member ll is a U-shaped spring member, the downwardly extending arm 49 being arranged to form an electrical contact with the receptaele contact member 40 when the socket is removed from the receptacle, thus closing the electrical circuit and allowing the other lamps in series to remain lighted.
A sheet metal cover 60 is removably supported on the socket 25 and is arranged to protect the lamp andto cover the central opening 21 between the reflectors.
\Vhile I have shown but one form of my invention it is obvious that it may be embodied in other forms as covered and defined by the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my inven tion, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States isl. A highway lighting unit comprising a socket for an electrical lamp and a pair oi? reflector members for directing the light ra dially and horizontally from the lamp, one of said reflector members being adjustably mounted to swing about a vertical axis extending through a lighting center, each reflector member being in the form of a semiparaboloid having a substantially horizontal axis, the semi-paraboloid being above the horizontal axis, and being open on its lower side and the lower edges lying substantially in horizontal plane, whereby the light may be placed at a bend or angle to the highway and the reflector member adjustable about a vertical axis to cause the light to substantially follow the highway in both directions from the lamp.
2. An electric lighting fixture comprising a socket for an electric lamp and a pair of reflectors 'for directing light radially and horizontally from said lamp, one of said reflector members being adjustably mounted to swing about a vertical axis extending through the light center, whereby the angle between the horizontal radial beams of light from said reflector members may be varied, and means for mounting said socket and re flector members comprising a bracket hav ing a portion for supporting said socket above said reflector members and an arm extending underneath the lamp for support ing the reflector members.

An electric lighting fixture comprising a socket for an electric lamp and a pair of reflectors for directing light radially and horizontally from said lamp, one of said reflector members being adjustably mounted to swing about a vertical axis extending through the light center, whereby the angle between the horizontal radial beams or light from said reflector members may be varied, said reflector members having wing portions for embracing said lamp.
4. An electric lighting fixture comprising a socket for an electric lamp and a pair or reflectors for directing light radially and horizontally from said lamp, one of said reflector members being adjustably mounted to swing about a vertical axis extending through the light center, whereby the angle between the horizontal radial beams of light from said reflector members may be varied, said reflector members having wing portions for embracing said lamp, said socket being mounted above said wing portions, and a housing for said socket extending downwardly so that its lower edge is adjacent said wing portions.
5. An electric lighting fixture comprising a socket for an electric lamp and a pair of reflectors for direct-ing light radially and horizontally from said lamp, one of said reflector members being adjustably mounted to swing about a vertical axis extending through the light center, whereby the angle between the horizontal radial beams of light from said reflector members may be varied, and means for mounting said socket and reflector members comprising a bracket having a portion for supporting said socket above said reflector members and an arm extending underneath the lamp for supporting the reflector members, said socket being readily detachable from the supporting bracket by movement upwardly with respect thereto whereby the socket together with the lamp therein may be lifted up to bring the lamp out of the reflector member for inspection and replacement.
6. An electric lighting fixture comprising a socket for an electric lamp and a pair of reflectors for directing light radially and horizontally from said lamp, one of said reflector members being adjustably mounted to swing about a vertical axis extending through the light center, whereby the angle between the horizontal radial beams of light from said reflector members may be varied, and means for mounting said socket and reflector members comprising a bracket having a portion for supporting said socket above said reflector members and an arm extending underneath the lamp for supporting the reflector members, said socket being readily detachable from the supporting bracket by movement upwardly with respect thereto whereby the socket together with the lamp therein may be lifted up tobring the lamp out of the reflector member for inspection and replacement, said bracket and socket having readily detachable interengaging electrical contacts to facilitate the connection and disconnection of the socket with respect to the bracket.
