Description

Patented Oct. 12, 1926.
UNITED vSTATES PAT WILLIAM SANDOW, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
EXERCISING DEVICE.
Application tiled May 1, 1926. Serial No. 106,068.
to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
lVith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proeds, the invention resides in the combinas tioii and arrangement of parts and in the detz ils of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the inven'fipn herein disclosed, may be made within lthe scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the\\drawings Figure l\\shows in top plan, a device constructed in `accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure l; L
Figure 3 is '3a section on the line 3 3 0f Figure 2. i,
The device forming the subject matter of this application is made up of two members l which cooperate to approximate the human head in shape. The members l may be made of wood` orl any other suitable material. They taper, as at 2, from their upper to their lower ends, and have smooth outer side surfaces, portions of which are conveXed, as at 3,'gboth longitudinally and transversely. Becaus-e the external surfaces of the article are sniooth, as above. described, additional diliicultyl` will be experienced in holding it, and the strengthhand sk ill of the person using the device, 'wlll be improved accordingly.
The members l have parallel inner surfaces 4 and the said members are supplied on their inner sides With seatsk receiving the ends of compression springs 6. The means for limiting the movement of the members l, away 'from each other, under the action of the springs 6, may be of any desired form. In the present embodiment of the invention, but not of necessity, ieXible strips 7 are provided for the purpose specified, the members l having flat end surfaces 8 to which the ends of the flexible strips 7 are attached by securing elements 9.
The operator holds the device between his arm and his body, and attempts to press the members l together, against the action' of the springs 6. The device, obviously, will give the necessary exercise, and promote strength, in the way of acquiring a strangle hold.
What is claimed is l. A device of the class described adapted for use between the body and the arm of an opera-tor, and, made up of two members which cooperate to approximate the human head in shape and size, whereby the arm will receive the same sort of exercise as that obtained when a human head is gripped be,- tween the arm and the body of the operator, the said members tapering from their upper to their lower ends and having smooth outer side surfaces, portions of which are conveXed both longitudinally and transversely, spring means for holding said members spaced apart, andmechanism for limiting the separation of said members under the action of the spring means.
2. A device of the class described, constructed as set forth in claim l, and further characterized by the fact that said mechanism embodies iiexible strips located at the ends of the said members, the ends of the strips being connected to the ends of the said members.
Y In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature.
WILLIAM SANDOW.
