COMBINATION SWIMMING: BELT AND RECEPTACLE.

My invention relates to a combination swimming belt and receptacle and more particularly to a belt provided with a water proof receptacle for containing articles that would be damaged by the water.

It is the purpose of the'invention to provide a receptacle on a belt to be worn about the body and it is particularly a purpose of the invention to provide a device of this character in which the receptacle is so constructed that the same will be water tight and articles such as rougeor powder, or any other articles that might be damaged by water, such as cigarettes or matches, may be carried therein.

Other objects andadvantages of the invention will appear as the description of the accompanying drawings proceeds. However, I desire to have it distinctly understood that I do not intend to limit myself to the exact details shown or described,'but that I intend to include as part of my invention all such obvious changes and modifications of parts as would occur to a person skilled in this art and as would fall within thescope of the claim.

Referring incletail to the drawings, in Figs. 1 and 2 is shown a receptacle which comprises a body portion 11 which is mounted on a wire loop member 12 in any suitable manner, such as by means of sold ering. Said member is provided with a pair of inwardly bowed portions 13 secured to the body portion of the receptacle and with ear portions projecting from the'sides of the receptacle for receiving fastening means for a belt, said portions having straight arm portions 14 which are adapted to receive the hook members 15 of the sheet The member 16 is also receiving the cross bar member 18 through which theloop portion 19 at each end of the belt passes, the loops being formed by means of the buckles 20 provided on the belt, the belt being designated 'by the numeral 21.

The member 16 is also provided with a wide sheet metal tongue portion 22 which 1s smooth and resilient and which serves as a locking member for. the hook 1 1, thus forming a snap hook for retaining the cross bar 14 in engagement with the member 16.

It is evident from the above that the length of the beltcan be varied as desired by means of the buckles 20, and that the receptacle 10 is detachably secured to the member 16.

Said receptacle 10 is provided with a lid 23 which is hinged to the body portion 11 by means of the hinge 24 and is held in closed position by means of any suitable catch 25. The lid 23 is provided with a down turned peripheral flange 26 and the body portion 11 is provided with an inwardly ott-set flange 27 providing a shoulder 28 for receiving the flange 26. Secured to the cover 23 is a mirror 29, said mirror being held in position by means of the ring 30 fitting snugly within the flange 26. Secured to the ring 30 in any suitable manner is a ringlike gasket 31 of suitable packing material such as rubber or other similar compounds; I

It willbe evident that the gasket 31 engages with the top edge of the flange 27 when the coyer on the container 10 is closed, thus sealing the same against the entrance of water into the receptacle or container.

Said container may be used for the carrying of any toilet articles or other materials for the convenience of the wearer which could not be otherwise carried into the water without becoming damaged, the

container in Figs. 1 and 2 being shown as containing a cake of powder 32 and a powder putt 33. y

In Fig. 3 a slightly modified form of device is shown in which the members 16 secured to the members 19 on the ends of the belt are secured to a wire member similar to that having the cross bar 1 1 in Fig. 1, said member having inwardly extending portions 13' and cross bars It, said cross bars being engaged by the member 16 and said inwardly extending portions 13 being secured to a rectangular container 34. The container 34 is provided with hinges 35 and with a catch 36 and is provided with a covliti er similar to the cover 28, except that it is different in shape, said cover carrying a rectangular gasket 37 which is adapted to be engaged by the top edge 38 of the inwardly extending flange on the bottom portion of said container so as to make the same water tight when the container is closed. The container shown in Fig. 3 is particularly adapted for use in carrying cigarettes or similar articles and matches, these being indicated respectively in Fig. by the numerals 39 and 40..

It will thus be seen that a Water tight container is provided on a belt and that it is immaterial just What the shape of the container is so long as it is so constructed that on closing of the lid the same is sealed Water tight by means of a gasket.

The important feature of the invention is that the container is mounted on a bodyencircling member and is so constructed as to be Water tight, whereby it can be readily carried by the wearer when wearing a bathing suit. The body-encircling member is, of course, preferably a beltused in connection with the bathing suit, thus obtaining a double use of the belt member. Having thus described my invention., I desire to claim and secure by United States Letters Patent is: A device of the character described, comprising a receptacle, said receptacle having a body portion, a cover, a mirror, a metal ring trictionally engaging said over fer holding said mirror in place, and a gasket mounted on said ring and engaged by the top-edge of said body portion when said cover is in closed position a belt, an elongated loop member upon which said receptacle is mounted and whose belt-receiving extremities project beyond said receptacle, and means pivotally mounted upon said er;- tremities for detachably holding the two ends of a belt.
