Description

Sept. 7 1926.
W. C. BOOTS HOOK Filed April 7, 1926 E Italgwuenkoo Patented Sept. 7, 1926 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM C. BOOTS, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO GUYOT BROTHERS COMPANY, INC., OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
HOOK.
Application filed April 7,
This invention relates to certain new and of operation of the hook to release same,
and further separate movement of the bail or bar of the watch or other part, out of en gagenient with the hook, or into engagement with the latter.
Further the invention aims to provide a hook which is positive in its holding action and in which accidental disengagement of the hook is minimized.
Still further, the invention aims'to provide a hook of simple and economical construction and capable of easy and quick assembly. I
In the drawings Figure l is a bottom vention,
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig.
Figure 3 is a section on line 33 01' Fig. 1,
Figure 4 is a sectional detail perspective view of the guides for the spring.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a hook 1 is provided having its shank formed with ears 2. A latch of substantially L-shape 3, is provided and has its sides offset at 4 to form a central raised and hollow guide rib 6. The ears 2 are bent over upon the sides of the latch and are engaged with the sides of the rib 6 so as to permit of free and easy sliding of the latch. The sides of the latch are further formed with curled or rolled guides 5 which engage the back 7 of the hook and the ears 2, thus with the rib 6 affording a three point guide for the latch.
The front end 8 of the latch is extended inwardly and engages the back 7 of the hook and is formed with an offset 9 which plan view of the in- 1926. Serial No. 100,369.
latter affords an abutment to engage the watch bar, not shown.
A coil spring 10 is employed to tension the latch and at one end is received in a U- guide 11 that in turn is held between the back 7 and the hollow interior of rib 6.
A pr-esser l2 conforms in shape to the end 8 and offset 9 of the latch and has a shank 13 which is received in the opposite end of the spring 10. The rear end 1a of the rib 6 engages the closed end of the spring guide 11. The rear end of the back 7 may be curled at'15 to provide an eye for attachment to the bracelet end 13. i
In operation, it will be noted that the 01? set 9 forms a seat receiving the free end of the hook and is normally held engaged therewith by the action of the spring 10.
To engage a Watch, bar or other part with the hook, it is merely necessary to effect movement of the bar to engage abutment 9 so as to urge the latch against the action of the spring thereby to admit the latch to the hook; To disengage the bar or other part, the same is caused to engage end 8 of the latch so as to move the latter to a position to release the hook. o I
It will be noted that no solder is required in uniting the parts and that the latter can be easilyand quickly connected to the hook shank, by mere bending of the ears 2.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the type described a hook having a shank provided with side cars, a latch of substantially L-shape having rolled side guides and an offset central hollow rib, the shank ears being engaged over the side guides and slidably engaged with the sides of the rib, one end of the latch having an offset forming a seat to receive the free end of the hook, a spring, a U- guide in the rib for one end of the spring, and a presser engaged with said end of the latch and with its ofi set and having a stem received in the opposite end of the spring, the rear end of the back of the hook being bar or part from the turned inwardly and engaged With the U- the sides of the rib, one erd of the latch g id 1 l 1 having an offset forming a seat to receive 10 2. In a device or the type described, a the free end of the hook, and spring pressed hook having a shank provided with side means for the latch.
ears, a latch of substantially L-shape having In testimony whereof I have signed my rolled side guides and an offset central 1101- name to this specification.
10W rib, the shank ears being engaged over the side guides and slidably engaged with WILLIAM C. BOOTS.
