Description
Slept. 7 c. P. JENSEN DOORGHECK Filed Sept. 8, 1925 i Patented Sept'. 7, )1926.-
' UNITED ,STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN PETER JENSEN, OF KROPP, NEAR SCHLESWIG, GERMANY.
nooncnncii.
Application filed September 8,1925, Serial No. 55,018, and in Germany April 6, 1925.
This invention relates to ma'4 device for .f deadening the slamming of doors and the like and consists in the provision of an,
arched blade spring arranged so that the arc projects from the door jamb and takes the thrust of the door, one endvofthe spring being secured to the jarnb and the other snpported in the direction of the chord .by a coil spring which is guided in a socket. Fig. l of the accompanying drawings rep- -resents a longitudinal section of the device,
and f Fig. 2,v is a front View of the same. Fig. 3 is a view showing the device in use, and
Fig. 4.-, a cross-sectional View of the device. The door` check is composed of a blade spring 2 which is arched and arranged so that the arc projects from the door jamb and takes the thrust of the door when -the latteris slammed. The spring, o ne end of u whichis secured to the door j amb, straightens out. under the impact and it is supported.
in the .direction of its chord by a coil vspring '4 which is Guided in a socket. formed-by a tumble a, thimble 3 are both secured to a metal mount 1 whigh is Lshfaped in cross-section, the metal mount land socket being let into the door jamb so thatonly the spring arc, projects from the jamb through a slot made in thevmetal mount.I The free end of the spring 2 is fitted Vwith a spherical head 5 whereby it bears' against the spring 4 and whereby it referably the spring 2 vand the slot in the latter, a spherical headsecured is guided in'the thimble 3. The two springs together produce an elicient` and noiseless buifer whereby. the door, on being slammed, will be eliectively checked and the shock` v absorbed.
The device is `ea'syto make and can easily be applied to any existing door-jamb. Two or more checks of this kind may be used for' each door.
I claim: y
1. A door check comprising an arched blade spring arranged so as to facethe door with its varc' and so as to be straightened under the impact, one end of the spring being rigidly and the other slidably supportedv a coil spring arranged so as to support th'c slidable end of the blade spring in the direction of its chord, a socket guiding the coil spring, and a spherical head connected to the slidable head of the blade spring for guiding the latter in saidsocket. 55
2. A door check comprising a metal mount of L-shaped cross-section formed with an elongated slot, an arched blade spring secured at one end to the metal mount and arrangedso lthat its arc projects through/the to the free end of the-spring,a thimble containing said head andsecured to themetalmount so as toguide the head inthedirecj l' j' tion of the chord of the blade spring, and a 6.?
coil spring arranged in' said thimble as a support for said head. Y j CHRISTIAN PETER JENSEN'.
