Description

Aug. 2 1926 RR SON VANITY CASE Filed June SimonMorriSon UNITED-1ST Patented Aug, 24, 1926.
Area;
, fvanrrr' oasis! Application filed June 7,"
My said invention relates to a vanity case and it is an object of the same to provide a device 01" the character described which shall be simpleand compact and inexpensive to manufacture.
A further object is to provide a vanity case all the parts of which when open lie in line with each other so as to be conveniently held and substantially concealed in the hand 01 the user.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure lis a perspective of the device in position for use,
Figure 2, a vertical central section on line 22 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3, a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2. I
In the drawings reference character 10 indicates the lowermost box or compartment which is intended to hold a powder compact of ordinary form mounted on glass or otherwise as desired. The top or cover 11 is hinged at 12 to the box 10 and has opposite the hinge a punched out part 13 leaving a lip adapted to ride over a small boss or projection 14 on the box to hold the parts of the case in closed position.
ix partition 15 extendsacross the cover 11, this partition being held in place trictionally and provided with legs 16 spacing it from the top of the cover which legs may also be resilient to aid in holding the partition in place. Preferably the partition is bent down at the outer edge to improve the finish. An opening is left preferably at the side next the hinge to receive a cup 17 intended to hold a rouge compact. This cup has its edges reversed as shown at 18 to rest on the partition and is held. in place with slight friction so as to be readily removable for. re-lilling. Beyond the cup the partition is provided with tongues 19 cut out and bent over at right angles to engage in parallel slits in a box or mirror-holder 20, the tongues and slits torming a slidable connection whereby the holder 20 can slide to an outer position as shown in Figure 2 or to a position concentric with the cover 11 when the case. is to be closed. A wider slit extends diametrically of the holder between the above-mentioned parallel slits and is en gaged by a bent tongue 21 extending up from the partition, the purpose of the latter was. wann -semen;
tongue being to prevent wobbling of the holder asiit slides to and fro. Behind the mirror 22 in the holder 20 is a disk of tin 23 to protect the silvered rear surface of the mirror and to prevent the silver from being marred or scratched and so damaging the mirror.
At the inner and outer ends of the box 20 I have shown hinged clips 2% and 25 adapted to "fold down on the mirror when the case is to be closed or to be raised to aiford a convenient means for sliding the mirror in and out on the cover.
Various modifications of my device will occur to those skilled in the art and therefore do not limit myself to the specific embodiment of the invention shown in the drawings and described in the specification but only as indicated in the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my said in vention, what I claim as new and desire to by Letters Patent, is:
i In a vanity case, a box, a cover hinged thereto, a partition extending across said cover, a cup held in an opening in said par tition, and a mirror slidably connected to the partitionand adapted in its inner position to cover said cup, substantially as set Iorth.
2. In a vanity case, a box, a cover hinged thereto, a partition in one of said members, a cup removabily supported in an opening in the partition, a mirror holder slidably connected to said partition, a mirror in the holder, and a protecting disk between the fnirror and the holder, substantially as set orth.
3. In a vanity case, a box, a cover hinged thereto, a partition in one of said members, means on said partition for holding a toilet article, a mirror holder having parallel slits, tongues on the partition engaging such slits, and a mirror in said holder, substantially as set forth.
4. In a vanity case, a box, a cover hinged thereto, a partition in one of said members, means on said partition for holding a toilet article, a mirror holder having parallel slits, tongues on the partition engaging such slits,
mirror in said holder, and connections between the partition and the holder to guide the holder for sliding movement in a straight line relative to the partition, sub stantially as set forth.
5. In a vanity case, a box, a cover hinged thereto said box and said cover being adapted to hold toilet articles, a mirror slidably supported on one of said members, and clips" or handholds at opposite sides of the mirror in line With the direction of relative movement of the same, substantially as set forth.
6. A vanity case comprising a main section or box, a cover section or box hinged to th main box and an intermediate section or box slidable along the open side of the main box when the case is open and housed within 10 this lth day of June, A. D. nineteen hun 15 dred and twenty-three.
