UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
- INGINERA'LOR.
Application Med May 17,
This invention relates to incinerators, and has for an object the provision of a novel form of incinerator which is compact as to form, easily accessible; and which is so formed as -to-permit a thorough such incinerator with material to e burned,
- Tand which material, due to the form of the incinerator will be burned completely.
cinerator.
With the above and other objectsin view, the invention consists in the novel and useful provision, formation, construction, association and relative arrangement of parts, members and featpres, all as shown in one vof its embodiments in the accompanying drawing, described generally and more particularly ointed out in the claims.
In the rawing:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the improved incinerator;
igure 2 is a top plan view of the incinerator; and,
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the in- Corresponding parts in all the figures are designated by thesame reference characters.
Referring now with particularity to the drawing, the improved mcinerator' is designated as an entirety and in the embodiment shownbyA, of which a is the base portion thereof, b a body or side wall portion, said members a and b cooperating to form a container, and a the top member carried by the body or. side wall member. There is likewise provided in the embodiment shown a central stack d adapted to .be assed through the top 0 and sup orted by t e base a. The base member a inc udes a grate portion 1; that is to say, the base is formed with a series of openmgs as shown best in Figural; at 2, and
such base is likewise provided with a flange 3 and with spaced 1e members or supports 4. The body 6 or si e wall may be annular in form and rest upon a grill portion within the confinesmof the flange 3, as shown at 5 inFi annular flange portion 9 which surrounds the central opening 10- in such base, and
acking of of the body b and 1924. Serial No. 713,948;
such flange-9 is likewise tapered as shown at 11. The stack 01 may comprise a tubular member having a portion which is beveled as shown at 12 to fit within the-beveled portion 11 of the flange 9, and such stack (2 may project through the annular opening in the top a as illustrated. at 13. Rigidity of such stack is maintained by means of brackets 14 and 15 surrounding 1n part such stack and joined with the body member I), as illustrated at 16. That portion of the stack which is within the body member I) and confined between the top a and the base a is provided with one or more perforations 17,- or that portion just set forth may be 'foraminous in nature.
- The operation of the device is as follows: It will be noted upon reference to Figures 1 and 2 that the part 8 of'the top 0 may be lifted upwardly against the portion 13 of .the stack (1, and paper or like material to be burned may be placed within the incinerator, such paper being received between the stack andtheinner surface of the body or side wall member 7).
If the mass of material to be burned is closely packed. as between the stack 01 and the body I), it is evident that complete combustion of such material to be burned would not occur unless such material were allowed to have air in contact therewith. By having the stack open to the atmosphere both at the top and bottom, a draft is produced through such stack and the openings 17 within such stack will present air holes so that air is not only admitted within the incinerator but a draft is produced within the incinerator through such air holes and up through the stack. As a result combustion of material to be burned is comparatively rapid and complete. It is a simple matter-to remove whatever ashes do not as through the gate by merely lifting up ebody portion om the base, whereupon the ashes may be removed.
It is obvious that various changes and variations and modifications may be made in practicing the invention, in departure from the particular showing and description without departing fromthe true spirit of the invention.
Havin thus disclosed my invention, I
claim an desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. An incinerator for outdoor use comprising in combination, a base including a grate portion and supporting legs for spacing the grate from the ground, an imperforate container shell mounted on the base over the grate, a cover for the container shell, and a stack supported in said baseand having its lower end communicating with the atmosphere through the space provided beneath the grate, the upper end of said stack projecting beyond the cover and the portion thereof Within the container shell being provided with openings.
2. An incinerator for outdoor use comprising in combination, a base casting including a grate portion and depending legs for spacing the grate from the ground, an upstanding flange on the grate surrounding an air intake openingand providing a stack receiving opening, an imperforate container shell mounted on the base, a cover for the container shell, and a stack having its lower end fitting into the socket formed by the said upstanding flange on the base thereby to communicate with the atmosphere through the space below the grate, and the portion of the said stack within the container shell hav ing openings, and means for anchoring the stack in the container shell.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
GEORGE o. MARTIN.
