Thislead tube is made of a solid rod centrally bored, which is threaded on its exterior surface, as shown at 12, and is provided with a longitudinal slot 13, clearly shown in Figure 2. The revolution of the nut 16 may be accomplished in a variety of ways, but I prefer to provide the nut with a depression 17 into which fits the longitudinal depression 18 in a rotator shell 19 which surrounds the p x nut, thus Vengagin -with it inl a manner to permit rotation o the nut by the rotator while allowing the nut to travel longitudie5 nally within the same., Any form of nut and rotator whereby these functions are made possible is within the invention. The rotator covers the entire path of longitudinal movement of the nut, and in order to preserve the relative longitudinal positwo longitudinal slits 20 through its sides, and to turn in the edges ofthe shell at its outer end, so that theseedges may spring into a cireulargroove 21 in the tube 11. This permits rotation ofy theshell 19 the tube, while preventing relative longitudinal movement. Of course, instead of slitting shell 19, the same object is accom lished if shell '19 ismade of two halves, w ich will eol ' be held together after they are in place, by
a shell into which the two halves fit.
For' the sake of a better appearance and finish, a tapered cover 22- is slipped over the end of the tube 11 and shell 19 so as t'o conceal ,the slitted end of the latter. Also at the inner end .of the shell I prefer to lit a centering cap 23 which prevents the lead tube from rocking within the casing. Finally the outer casing 24 is slipped over the whole interior mechanism making a tight fit on the cover 22 and completing the article.
It is, of course, necessary: that rotary motion should be transmitted from the casing 100 24 to the rotatori'shell 19, and I prefer to accomplish this by vmaking the'cap 23 fit over the shell 19 and into thecasing 24 so tightly that, for all practical purposes, they are united into one structure.
