This invention relates to music leaf turners especially adapted to be used upon piano and organ cases, and it consists inthe novel feature hereinafter described 'and claimed.-
t An object of the inventionlis toprovide a music leaf turning mechanism of simple structure adapted to be operated by a foot pedal and whichincludes means for engagmg and turning the leaves successively, and l w ien the leaves are supported upon the disc l lVith this object in view, the music leaf turner comprises a frame adapted to be applied to the disc of the instrument casin A shaft is journalled upon the frame, an a series of arms is loosely mounted upon the shaft. Each of the said arms is provided with crim s adapted to engage the music leaves. A racket arm is fixed to the shaft and carries a head providedv with a pawl adapted to engage lugs mounted upon 'the first. mentioned arms, whereby the loose arms are temporarily ixedwith relation to the shaft, 'and will turn with the shaft when the shaftk .is turned. release arm is 'mounted upon the frame, and is located in the path of movement of a pin which is carried by the pawl, and when the said pin rides upon the shunt arm, the pawl is moved out `of en agement with the lug which is xedto t e arm, and which is loose upon the shaft. The device also includes a foot pedal, there being means operatively connected with the said foot pedal, and the shaft whereb the said shaft is turned when the pedal is epressed. Means are provided for returning the shaft when the pedal is released In the accompanying drawings:

Figure 4 is a perspective view of the outer end portion of the bracket arm of the music leaf turner, showing the head 0 mounted thereon, and the paWl which is pivoted upon vthe head.
In the accompanying drawing, the piano or organ casing is indicated at 1, and the said casing .is provided with the usual pivoted disc panel 2. A frame is mounted upon the outcr surface of the disc panel 2, and is provided withv a ledge 4, upon which the lower edges of the sheets of music not shown) may rest. A release arm 5 is mounted upon the upper portion of the frame Land the said arm is providedwith a forwardly and downardly inclined end portion having a lug 7 mounted thereon and spaced from the end edge thereof. A shaft 8 isjournalled upon the frame 3, and a bracket arm 9 is fixed to the said shaft. A head plate 10 vis fixed to the outer free end of the bracket arm 9 and is provided with a ledge portion 11, a pawl 12 is pivoted upon the head plate 10, and the lower edge thereof is normally held in contact with the upper surface of the ledge 11, by a spring 13, which is connected at one end with an angularly disposed end portion 14, of the pawl, and connected at its other end with an upstanding arm 15 provided at the upper edge of the head plate 10. The pawl 12 is provided with a chamtered end 1G.; and said pawl is provided at its lower edge portion with a notch or recess 17. The free end of the pawl 12 is pointed, and the 'free end portion thereof is provided` with an outstanding end 18. A series of arms 19 is loosely mounted upon the shaft 8, one upon the other. and each arm is provided with a pair of clips 20, adapted to engage the upf per edge portion of the sheet of music. Each arm 19 is provided at the point between its ends with a lug 2l and the lugs 21 have angularly disposed end portions as best shown in Figure 4 of the drawing. The upper end portions of the lugs 2l are adapted to be received respectively in the recess 17 of the pawls 12, as the arm 9 and head plate 10 are turned or moved, as hereinafter explained.
I A gear wheel 22 is fixed to the upper portion of the shaft 8, and meshes with the teeth of the gear segment 23, which is fixed to the upper end portion of the shaft 24, the said shaft 24 being journalled at the back of the disc panel 2, and the segment 23 passing through the said panel as best shown in Figure 2 of the drawings. rljhe shaft 24 is provided, at its lower end with a crank A shaft 26 is journalled in the casing `l, and is provided .at its upper end vith a crank 2?. From the above description, it will be apparent that when the pedal 30 is depressed, the gear segment is moved transversely of the shaft 2P, and inasmuch as the teeth ft' the segment 35 are in mesh with the eefh of the gear Wheel 29, the shaft 25 r ed or rota-ted.
