CAMP COOKING DEVICE.
Application filed March 24, 1925.
This invention relates to a camp cooking device or outdoor grid and arms to provide a device of this character which is of simple, comparatively inexpensive and durable con struction, which possess portability to a high degree in that it is of light weight and capable when taken down of compact storage, which may be easily set up or taken down and which when set up provides a firm and rigid support for cooking vessels, utensils and the like of such a character as to facilitate effective cooking over an ordinary camp fire.
Other objects and advantages reside in certain novel features of the construction, arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which:
Figure l is a perspective view illustrating an embodiment of the invention set up and ready for use,
Figure 2 is a sectional view showing the construction of the head of the supporting stake and the attaching elements of the grid, and r V I Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the parts shown in Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a supporting member or stake having its lower end sharpened so that it may be readily driven into the ground.
The upper end of the stake is reduced as at 2 and there is a shoulder 3 presented at the juncture of the reduced portion and the main portion.
A head 4, which may have the form of a rectangular block, is provided and has a central opening in which the reduced upper end 3 is fitted. The reduced upper end 3 is long enough to project above the block and on the projecting portion of the end 3 a cap 5 is fitted and pinned or otherwise secured. In this way the head a is rotatably supported on the stake.
At each end the head 4 has formed there-- in a horizontally disposed slot 6 which extends from a point adjacent to but spaced from the center of the head out through one end thereof and which also opens through Serial No. 17,990.
the top of the block though extending only part way down through the head. A vertical slot 7 extends from the bottom of the inner end of each slot 6 down through the head t.
A. pair of cooking vessel or utensil supporting devices are provided and preferably comprise grids which may be made up of side bars 8 and cross bars 9 connected to the side bars 8.
An angular attaching lug 10 is provided for each grid or supporting device. Each attaching lug 10 may be conveniently formed integral with one of the cross bars 9 of the grid on which it is provided. Each lug 10 includes a horizontal portion 11 adapted to snugly fit in a horizontal slot 6 of the head 4; and a vertical portion 12 adapted to snugly fit in a vertical slot 7 of the head. The lugsand slots when interengaged rigidly and firmly connect the grids to the head and yet the parts may be readily set up or taken down. When set up the grids are rotatable and the head is rotatable on the stake and this has the advantage of varying the position of the grid relative to the fire. hen disassembled the three parts may be compactly stored and easily transported. thoroughly practical and convenient camping accessory.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character described, a supporting stake having a main portion and having its lower end sharpened and its upper end reduced, there being a shoulder at the juncture of the reduced upper end and the main portion, a head having an opening receiving the reduced end and engaged with the shoulder whereby the head is rotatably supported on the stake, a cap fixed to the reduced end to maintain the head thereon and to provide an impact surface, a pair of grids, and readily releasable means for con- 7 necting the grids to the head.
2. A camp cooking device comprising a supporting stake, a head thereon, said head having a horizontal slot and a vertical slot, a grid separable from the supporting stake and its head and made up of positively connected rigid side and end bars, and anattaching lug fixedly secured to the gridand In general the device provides a having a horizontal portion adapted to larly disposed intersecting slots, and a rigid snugly though removably fit the horizontal grid separable from the supporting element slot and a vertical portion adapted to snugly and its part and having a lug of angular 10 though removably fit the vertical slot. form designed to be snugly though remov- 3. A oampcooking device comprising a ablyI'fi-ttedin said'slots. supporting element a part mounted on the supporting element and provided with angu- HARRY MILTON BRIGGS.
