This invention relates to` electrically .oper ated devices for opening and closlng hmged doors and consists in the devices and combinations of devices herein illustrated described and claimed. i 7
The principal object of the invention is to provide an apparatus which will include an operating/motor, means tol stop the motor at a particular time and simultaneously reverse the motor lield, so that when again set in motion, the motor shaft will travel in the opposite direction. /Thus, `the operator, to open a closed door, will simply push an operating switch to throw on the current, and the apparatus will open the door, and he will merely push the same switch to cause the apparatus to close the door. This object and the advantages of my invention will be more manifest as I proceed .with my speciication. l

This arm 7 is pivotally mounted to a bracket 8 secured to the su port B.
The location of the brac et 8 with relation to the location ofthe housing D on the door will. be such that when the motor rotates the shaft 5, the arm 6 will swin to the right or left as the -case may be, and in` turn swing the'arm 7 in the same ,1 direction, and since one end of the arm 7 is pivotally secured through its bracket 8 to the fixed support, it followsv that the door will swing on its hinges to open or to close, as the casemay be.
The housing D is provided with a flange bearing 9 on an integral bracket 10, on which bracket are mounted two swtches 11 and 12 which are inthe motor circuit E. These switches have projecting operating knobsl or buttons 13 and 14 respectively. A slidable bar 15 is provided with an elongated lslotted portion 16 at one end where it surrounds and hasbearing upon a .cylindrical projection 18 of thehousing.V The'other end 17 is mounted in the llange bearing 9 of bracket 10. Intermediate the portions 16 and 17 thisv slidable bar 15 is provided with two apertures 19 and 20 to engage the switch knobs 13 and 14 respectively. Thus when the bar 15 is moved in one direction, say to the right, the switch knobs 13l and 14 are simultaneouslymoved in the same direction, and the latter are moved to the left when the bar 15 is moved to the left.

Referring to the circuit E of Fig. 8, the line contains two or more operating switches S, R, placed at locations convenient for the persons who may desire to operate my device to open or close the doors A, A. One line e runs direct to the motors M. The other line through switches S, R, to the switches 12 of each device by the lines X and Y. Thus switches S, R and 12 open and close the circuit while switches 11, as before stated, operate to reverse the ield of the motor; switches 11 and 12 being simultaneously actuated by the bar 15. l

At one point in its periphery, this disc is provided with a notch 32,A the sides of which flare so as to form in effect a cam surface. In the normal osition of the device, the end of the bo t 28 will rest in this cam notch 32. The tension of the spring 29 is such that, notwithstandin the fact that the arm 6 is loosely mounte upon the shaft 5, the rotation of said shaft 5 carrying with it the fixed cam disc 31, will, through said bolt 28, swing the arm 6 in the proper direction, as hereinbefore described. On the other hand, in the event of any sudden jar to tne door, there wll be obtained a certain amountof yield, or lost motion, or relative movement between the'shaft 5 and the arm 6, by reason ofthe fact that in the rotation of the shaft 5 vand disc 31, the end of the bolt 28 will instantly ride over the cam surface of the notch 32 and rest u e spring 29 is suiciently coin ressed for this purpose by reason of the su denness of the Jar. An apparatus for operating hinged doors comprising an arm pivotally secured at one end to a fixed support, anelectric motor on the door, a second arm one end of which is pivotally connected to the swing` able end of said first mentioned arm, means for communicating motion from the motor to said second arm, comprising a rotatable shaft on which said second arm is loosely mounted, a notched disc fixedlymounted on the shaft,`a yielding locking bolt on said second arm and engaged, normally, in said notch, and gearing connecting said shaft and the motor shaft, an electric circuit provided with a motoi` reversing switch and a controlling switch, and means for simultaneously operating both switches. v
