CABINET AND CARRIER LOCK THEREFOR.

Application filed December 31, 1924. Serial No. 759,142.

This invention relates to cabinets and carrier locks therefor and has for an object to provide an improved construction wherein the carrier may be quickly and easily inserted and simultaneously locked.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cabinet wherein an improved shelf structure is presented acting in the double capacity of shelf and carrier holding means.

A still further objectof the invention is to provide a cabinet wherein metallic shelves are provided and each shelf being formed with a depending resilient carrier supporting structure having finger holes through which the operator may reach the tickets.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates one of the end walls of the casing of the cabinetwhich may be of wood or any desired material and is merely an ordinary box structure. Connected to the end wall 1 are a plurality of sl'ielres 2 which extend entirely across the cabinet and are connected also to the opposite end wall. The various shelves 2 interlock as shown particularly in Figure 3 and are held in place by suitable screws 3 ext-ending through the overlapping parts of the shelves and into the side wall 1. From Figure 3 it will be noted that each shelf has a portion extending entirely across from one side wall to the other of the cabinet and acting as shelf proper and in addition, depending end portions held in place by the screws'3, the de pending end portion of an upper shelf overlapping the neXt lower shelf which is pressed out to accommodate the same. By reason of the pressed out portion 4, a shoulder 5 is presented which receives the lower edge of the end section 6 and thereby forms a stiffening structure for the shelf and also ample means for receiving the screws 3. At the front, each of the shelves 2 is provided with a plate or vfront section 7 designed to receive the various legend carriers 8, an invardly bent portion 9 and what may be termed as holding fingers 10. The openings 11 between the holding fingers 10 act as finger openings through which the fingers of the operator may extend when grasping a ticket in the carrier 12. The carrier 12 is substantially rectangular in cross section as illustrated in Figure 2 and is provided with most of the top wall cut away and most of one side whereby tickets may be readily inserted into the carrier. The front of the carrier is formed with an inclined flange structure 13 which acts to retain the tickets against accidental loss from the carrier but which permits the operator to freely pull a ticket therefrom. The detail construction of the carrier 12 forms no part of the present invention except the pressed down locking member 16 which is adaated to snap through the opening 17 in the shelf 2 as indicated in Figure 2 whereby the carrier is locked against removal.

As indicated in Figure 4, when the carrier is first inserted, the front wall 15 will restagainst one of the fingers 10 and the lock ing member 16 will not quite reach the aperture 17. By pressing against the rear end of the carrier 12, the fingers 10 may be flexed as indicated in dotted lines whereby the locking member 16 may quickly and easily move into the locking position shown in Figure 2. The resilient action of the fin gers 10 will hold the locking structure 16 against the shoulder 18, and consequently, against accidentally coming loose. lVhen it is desired to remove the carrier 12, the rear end is pushed forward slightly and also raised whereupon the locking member 16 will be quickly disengaged from the shoulder 18 and the carrier released so that it may be readily moved out of the cabinet by a rearward and upward movement. It will be noted that the carriers must be loaded and applied and removed from the rear of the cabinet while the shelves present the front holding means for limiting the forward movement of the respective carriers.

What I claim is:

1. A cabinet and carrier lock therefor, comprising a cabinet body or casing, a shelf arranged in said body or casing, said shelf being formed with an opening near the rear and with resilient fingers near the front, and

a carrier adapted to be supported by said Ill] sheifi said carrier being form-ed with a locking nieniher near the rear end so positioned as to fit no said opening when the front end is flexing one of said fingers.

In a cabinet, a plurality of shelves formed with fiat bodies extending at an angle. each sheit' being provided at the end with depending sides the upper part of each side of each shelf being pressed inwardly for providinga recess and shoulder for receiving part of the end of the next, superimposed shelf. means passing through the overlapping part of said ends for securing the ends together and in position, means carried by the front edge of each of said eodiss presenting supporting fingers, and a carrier adapted to he placed on each of said shelves and supported against downward movement by said fingers.

3 In a cabinet, a plurality of inclined shelves, each shelf being formed with an opening near the rear, carriers adapted to be placed on each shelf, each of the carriers having a pressed out section in the bottom adapted to fit into said opening for lot-kin; the earners against rearward movement. and means engaging the front of the carrier preventing forward movement.
