GEAR FULLER.
Application med April 8, 1925.
This invention relates to gear pullers, and more particularly to a device which may be readily1 knocked down or disassembled for )aching and shipping.
An object of the invention is the provision of a gear puller of simple construction that may be adjusted through a wide range for use on gears of different sizes and in `connection with shafts of different lengths.
A. further object is the provision of a gear puller in which the parts may be readily removed to permit it to be stored in a small space for transportation. i
ln the accompanying drawings, l have shown one embodiment of the invention. In this showing:
Figure l is a perspective view,
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view,
Figure 3 is a plan View,
Figure 4 is a detail view of one of the arms, and, y
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view on line 5 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings, the device comprises a pair of arms l, a transverse member 2, and an operating shaft or handle 3. The arms are provided with spaced cut out portions 4, adapted to be received in the transverse member. As shown, the transverse men'iber is provided with slots 5 at each side, substantially parallel to its upper and lower faces. It is further provided with a centrally threaded opening for the reception of threads 6, formed on the shaft. Av handle 7 is secured to the shaft for the purpose of obtaining the desired leverage in operating the device. its shown in Figure 4 of the drawings. one end of each arm is provided with threads 8 adapted to be received in a threaded opening 9 of a foot 10. The foot is provided with oppositely disposed slots l'l which vary in size. The opposite end of cach arm is provided with a threaded bore 18. A rod 14 is adapted to be arranged in each of the openings. These rods are pro vided with hooks l5 on their outer ends. Adjacent each end, the transverse arm is provided with openings 16.
The operation of the device will be read- The transverse arm is adjusted in the re- Seral No. 21,667.
mounted on the arms and different sets of' feet may be employed to obtain desired adj ustments. lt will be appartgcnt that the arms may be adjusted transversely by merely moving` them in the slots 5. TvVith the parts in the position shown in Figure 3 of the drawings, the hooks l5 are adapted to be arranged behind the to remove it. If the rods 13 become broken, they may be removed, and replaced by new ones. If necessary, a chain can be fastened in the openings 16, and passed around the gear.
Particular attention is called to the ready adjustability of the device, by merely sliding the arms transversely of the member 2 and by placing the transverse member in the desired reduced portions 4 for longitudinal adjustment. Then the device is not in use, the arms may be removed and the parts packed in a relatively small space for transportation or shipment.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a pref-erred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the sub joined claim.
I claim:
ln a device of the character described., a transverse member having a central threaded opening and forked ends, arms adapted to be received in the ends of said transverse member, said arms being provided with a plurality7 of spaced, reduced portions to permit longitudinal adjustment of said arms in said transverse member, and a threaded operating shaft passing through said opening.
ln testimony whereof, l atfix my signature.
EVERETT G. LIVESAY.
