Application filed. June 11, 1923.
My invention relates to combined road markers and mail boxes; and the object is to provide mail boxes which will protect mail against weather conditions and depredations and which will support the mail boxes in positions convenient for the mail carrier and for the owners and to adapt the apparatus for a road marker and also for a mail route marker. Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application.
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a side or edge elevation of the same.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
The apparatus includes an upright frame which is provided with posts 1, 2, and 3. These posts may be set in the ground or cement or otherwise. The post 2 extends up to a frame piece 4: which is attached thereto. The frame piece 4: is also attached to the posts 1, 2 and 8. An ornamental lattice member 5 may be attached to the posts 1, 2 and 3. Aboard 6 may be mounted on the frame member 4 and attached to the posts 1 and 3 for use in displaying information for the benefit of travelers. A frame member 7 is attached to the board 6 and is supported on the posts 1 and 3. Upright frame members 8 are attached to the posts 1 and 3 and to frame member 7. Upright frame members 9 are attached to the frame member 7 and an angular roof member 10 is attached to the uprights 8 and 9 for protecting the mail boxes 12 which are attached to the frame member 7. The mail boxes 12 may be of any suitable type. The mail boxes may be protected on the back side by a screen 13. End members let are connected to the screen 13 and to the frame members 8 and the screen members should extend the whole distance between the supporting frame member 7 and the roof 10. This space between the frame 7 and the roof 10 is made deep enough to contain packages which may be Serial No. 644,620.
mounted on the mail boxes. The slanting sides of the roof 10 may 1e utilized for furnishing inforn'iation to the public or travelers.
The device shown. will be securely supported by the frame members provided and a display board is provided in a conspicuous place for furnishing information to travelers in the manner illustrated. The same fram members support a receptacle or compartment for mounting mail boxes and the roof protects the mail boxes and other mail matter generally from rain and snow. Ample provision is made in the compartment for mail boxes to contain packages too large for the mail boxes.
