ETED STATES LEONARD FRANZEN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNUR TO VIKING TOOL & MACHINE ('10., INC, A CORPORATION OF NEVT YORK.
ADVERTISING DISPLAY RACK.
Application filed January 6, 1925.
My invention relates to advertising display racks of the type wherein a plurality of shel es are hung in a revolving cage and travel with it, being held at a pre-detei mined angle to the vertical and successively presenting the merchandise on the shelves to the observers. One object of my invention is the elimination of the shaft on which such structures usually revolve, substituting a cage which may be lifted from the driving mechanism whenever desired. Another ob .ject is the simplification and cheapening of the mechanism to reduce the cost of the device, to provide simple, but effective, driving mechanism and the provision of simple means for holding the shelves at a pre-determined angle to the vertical.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a side view of a rack embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a top, sectional view of the structure of Fig. 1, on the line 22 thereof; Fig. 3 a sectional view of the structure of Fig. 4: taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 4; and Fig. 1- an end view of the lower portion of the device.
The base structure comprises four corner posts 1, 2, 3 and 4, connected by end rails 5 and side rails 6.
The cage carrying the display shelves consists of two rings 17 and 18, connected by cross rods 19, 19, etc, and spaced apart so that the rings will ride on the flanged wheels '2", 8, 10 and 11. Each shelf QO'has a pair of bearing lugs 21, 21 on its under side which lugs are notched to engage a cross rod 19. Stops 22, 22 are fastened to each rod to bear against the lugs on the shelf Serial No. 795.
to prevent endwise travel of the shelf thereon.
To maintain each shelf at a pre-deteriined angle to the vertical an arm 23 is secured thereto on the under side, near one end, which arm carries a balance weight which may be locked in any position to fix the angle at which the shelf will stand during the rotation of the cage.
In use the cage is seton the flanged wheels and the shelves adjusted to the desired angle. The goods are placed on the shelves and upon starting the motor the flanged wheels 10 and 11 revolve driving the cage by friction and causing it to slowly revolve and successively display the goods on the shelves. The forward wheels 7 and 8 are idlers and carry and guide the rings making up the cage.
If desired the base and driving mechanism may be concealed so that the observer cannot discern how the cage is revolved thereby adding to the advertising value of the device.
I claim 1. An advertising display rack comprising a base frame, a plurality of flanged wheels thereon, means for rotating certain of said wheels, a cage consisting of a pair of spokeless rings and cross rods connecting said rings resting on the flanged wheels and adapted to be rotated thereby, shelves carried by said cage and means for holding said shelves at a predetermined angle to the vertical during rotation of the cage.
2. An advertising display rack comprising a base frame, a plurality of flanged wheels thereon, means for rotating certain of said wheels, a cage consisting of a pair of spoke less rings, cross rods connecting said rings, said rings resting on the flanged wheels and adapted to be rotated thereby, a shelf, a pair of notched lugs on the under side thereof engaging a cross rod, an arm. secured to the under side of the shelf and a counterweight on said arm.
In testimony whereof I have afixed my signature.
LEONARD FRANZEN.
