COMBINED BARREL LIFT AND STAND.
Application filed Decembcr 28, 1925. Serial in); 78,008,,
The present invention relates to improvements in combined barrel lifts and stands, primarily intended to facilitate the handling of barrels or kegs containing liquids of various characters.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an improved combined barrel lift and stand whereby a barrel or keg may be disposed in an elevated upright position for permitting of the contents thereof being readily drained. off through a suitable faucet or spigot positioned in the lower portion of the barrel.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved barrel lift and stand constructed wholly of stock fittings and pipe lengths, with the fittings for certain of the pipe lengths serving to prevent movement of the barrel with respect to the lift and stand when the barrel is in either of its positions upon the device. 1
A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this character which is extremely simple and durable in construction, and which when in a position for supporting the barrel in an elevated upright position, ample free space is provided beneath the barrel for placing of the measures or containers into which the contents of the barrel are drawn off.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following detail description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification and in which drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combined lift and stand and showing by way of dotted lines a barrel supported in an elevated upright position upon the stand.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the improved device and showing a barrel supported thereupon for permitting of the contents being drawn from the barrel.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the device in a lowered position and showing a barrel positioned upon the lift prior to being elevated into a position as illustrated in Figure 2.
Figure l is a horizontal section taken on line f l of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a transverse section on line 5-5 of Figure 3 and showing the manner in which the'barrel is held in a position centrally of the lift.
Figure 6 is an enlarged fragmentarysection through one of the feet of the device and illustrating the manner in which the leveling of the device may be accomplished.
Referring to the drawings in detail, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter A may generally designate the improved device, embodying a stand B and a lift C.
The stand B which is substantially rectangular shape in plan, is formed with a pair of front upright sections 10 and apair of rear upright sections 11, connected at their lower ends by a rectangular shaped lower frame embodying front and rear sections 12 and 18 respectively, and side sections 14. The upright sections 10 and 11 are connected at their lower ends to thefraine forming sections by means of four way T fittings 15. Threaded upon the upper end of each of the front upright sections 10 are side outlet elbows 16, while each of the rear upright sections 11 have threaded to their upper ends, four way Ts 17. A horizontally disposed platform 18 supported upon the upper ends of the uprights, 10 and 11, consist of a front horizontal support 19 having its ends threaded into confronting out lets of the elbows 16, a rear horizontalsupport 20 having its opposite ends threaded into the confronting outlet of the T fittings 17, and end supports 21 havingtheir opposite ends threaded into the confronting openings of the fittings 16 and 17. Extend ing vertically and midway between the uprights 10 and 11, are brace sections 22 having' their lower ends threaded into T littings 23 of the side sections 1 1, and having their upper ends threadedinto medially disposed four way Ts 24c of the end supports 21. Extending longitudinally between the front and rear supports 19 and 20 respectively, and having its opposite ends threaded into confronting openings of the four way T fittings 24, is a rest section 25 connected centrally of its ends with a horizontally disposed cross 26. Extending in a like horizontal plane with the rest section 25, is
Referringnow to the lift C, the same embodiesa pairiof uprights31- adaptedcto be threaded at their lower endsinto the upper openings of the four way T fittings 1'7, and connected at their upper ends by a transverse handle portion-32connected substantially midway of its ends by a union 33. Connecting the uprights 31, and extending in parallel relation'with the handle portion 32, are spacedapart lift bars 34: having their terminal ends threaded into, horizontally aligned T fittings 35 forming parts of the uprights 31. Connected in each of the lift bars 3 1, and spaced equidistantly to each side of, the center of the bars, are retaining lugs or unions 36 whichaside from permitting of. assembling of the bars, serve as means for retaining the barrel in proper position upon the lift when the device is in a lowered position; as illustrated in Figure 3. Figure 5 illustrates moreclearly the manner in which the unions 36 prevent further rolling of the barrel after being properly positioned upon the lift. It will be observed that the union 33 aside frompermitting of assembling of the handle portion 32, also serves as means for retainingthe handle portion a sufficient distanceabove the floor surface whenthe deviceis in a loweredposition for permittin of the operator to readily grip the handle portion for raising the device to an upright: position. I
Threaded upwardly into the lower screw threaded openings of each, of the four way Ts 15, are threadedplugsi37 provided with wrenchsquares 38. These plugs37 serve as leveling means for the device, and it will be readily seen that such leveling may be accomplishedby theplacing ofan end length upon the wrench squares 38 and threading the plug into or out of the Ts.
In positioning a barrelin a n/upright position upon the device for permittingof the contents thereof tobe readily drawn off, the combined lift and stand is first lowered to a position as, illustratedin Figure 3;, whereupon the barrel may be rolled upon-the lift C until the same comes to rest betweenvthe unions 29-and 30, aside of assembly of the platunions 36 and illustrated in Figure 5. The faucet or spigot D may then be positioned in the barrel in'its proper place without liability of the barrel shift-ing during the positioning of the faucet, It may here be stated thattlie unions 36 form a four point support for the barrel and which not only preventsrollingvof the barrel but also prevents rocking of the barrel. The operator may then graspthe handle portion 32 and upon raising of the same the device will pivot about the rear fittings 15 until the front fittings 15 havebeen brought into engagement with the floor surface and whereupon the barrel will come to rest upon the platformv 13 and there held against undesirable. lateral shifting by means of the unions 29 and 30. lVith the barrel thus elevated, the open space below the platform 18 forms aconvenient place for placing the various containers or measures employed for withdrawing the contents of the barrel.
From the foregoing description it will be seenvthat. an extremely novel and efficient combined barrel lift and stand has been provided which maybe formedentirely of pipe lengths and stock fittings, and certain of which fittingsfor assembling of the device, are so arrangedas to act as means for preventing movement of the barrel when in either of its positions upon the lift.
Various minor changes may be. made to the form of invention herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the following claims.
