E. D. MILLER FOOT TOILET FLUSHING CONTROL Filed Feb. 21, 1924 ATTORNEY Patented May 18, 1926.
ELLIS D. MILLER, OF BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA.
FOOT TOILET-FLUSHING- CONTROL.
Application filed. February 21, 1924.
My invention is an improved toilet flushing control.
The object of my invention is to provide a control which is placed in a convenient position to be operated by the foot.
Another object is to provide a control which is simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be more specifically pointed out in the follow ing detailed description.
In the annexed drawing in which my invention is illustrated:
Figure 1 is a side View of my control socured to a toilet.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the actuating lever.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail view of a joint bet-ween the lever and a push rod.
Figure 4 is a sectional detail view of the pivotal support for the lever.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that a pedal 10 is pivoted to a foot 11, which foot is secured to an anchor bolt 12 for the bowl 2. The pedal 10 is prefer ably formed of two members 13 and 14, which are secured together by a bolt 15 and a pivot 16, extending through the foot 11. A plurality of holes are formed in the members so that they may be adjusted longitudinally.
It will be noted that the holes in the members 13 and 14 not only accommodate the bolt 15 but also the pivot 16; this an rangement allows the lever to be assembled in a manner different from that shown in Figure 1, by moving the section 13 endwise to the right so that its first hole falls outside the pivot 16 and registers with the last hole of section 14 for the reception of the bolt. hen assembled in this manner, only the section 14 is supported on the pivot 16 while the section 13 serves as an operating member for section 14. This is of importance when it is desired to operate the foot lever for forcing the link 17 downwardly instead of upwardly, a change which may be readily effected by giving the sec- Serial No. 694,331.
A rod 17 extends to the flushing handle 18, and a collar 19 is formed on the bottom thereof, around which the forked end of the member 14 extends.
Havin described my invention, I claim 1. In combination with a toilet bowl having a flange at the bottom thereof perforated to allow bolts to extend theretlirough for anchoring the bowl to a su porting face, a toilet flushing control comprising an element adapted for fastening to one of said bolts, a foot lever pivotally mounted in the said element to extend along the side of the bowl and a link leading directly from one end of the lever to a flushing tank.
2. In combination with a toilet bowl having a flange at the bottom thereof perforated to allow bolts to extend therethrough for anchoring the bolts to a supporting face, a toilet flushing control comprising an element adapted for fastening to one of said bolts, a foot lever pivotally mounted. in the said element to extend along the side of the 'bowl and a link leading directly from one end of the lever to a flushing tank, the foot lever being extensible.
3. In combination with a toilet bowl having' a fian e at the bottom thereof perfo rated to allow bolts to extend tl'ierethrough for anchoring the bolts to a sup iiorting face, a toilet flushing control comprising an element adapted for fastening to one of said bolts, a foot lever pivotally mounted in the said element to extend along the side of the bowl and a link leading directly from one end of the lever to a flushing tank, the foot lever consisting of two sections, each formed with a plurality of perforations adapted to serve for receiving either the pivot or a fastening means and allowing the lever 1 its support to be selectively assembled for operation of the lever as a unit or as two independent sections.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ELLIS D. MILLER.
