J. L. JONES SAW FILING AND GAUGING DEVICE Filed Dec. 12, 1924 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR ATTORNEY ition so that all the teeth of a pitch.
Patented May 18, 1926.
UNITED STATES Application filed December This invention also consists in certain other features" of. construction and 1n the combination and arrangement of the'several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, il-
lustrated in" the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. i
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein. lilce '-cliaracters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a. perspective view showing the invention in'use.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Figure 4 is an end view with the file in' section. 1
- Inrthese views, 1 indicates the body of the fileholder which is provided with a socket toreceive the'chucks 2 for engaging a file whichis shown at A, the chucks being contrzlcted. by the sleeve t3.- These parts are of the usual or any desired construction. A handle 4 is rotatably mounted on the shank 5 of the body '1, said handle being provided with-a sleeve 6 through which the shank passes, the parts being held together by the set screw 7. A collar 8 is 'rotatably mounted .on a part of the body 1 and has a threaded socket 9 therein for receiving the threaded end i of a weight '10 which tends to hold the collar in a certain position on the body. The collar is held in ad justed position on the body by the threaded sleeve 11 on the body which clamps the collar betWeen itself and a part'of the body. A scale 12 is. carried by the collar and a marker 13 is carried by a part of the body .for permitting the collar to be adjusted to the desired extent on the body. Then by screwing the sleeve 11 against the collar the I Figure 2 is a plan view of the device.

collar will be held in its adjusted position. This scale and marker-will permit the parts to be adjusted togive the file the proper position to cut the teeth at the desired pitch. The device is held with the handle in one hand and the fingers of the other hand holding te'tip of .,the file, The weight 10, will cause the body and the file to move relatively to the handle until the weight is in its lowest'positioir, which will be the position for which the fileis set to give the teeth of th-esaw the desired pitch. Thus with this device all the teeth will be given the same pitch and they may be given any desired pitch by adjusting the parts of the device accurately and without guessing at the pitc'h.ii I The weight 10 may be provided with an opehinglO. so that the weight can be used as a plumb 'bob by attaching a string to it by means of this passage.
It is-thought fromthe foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction andin the combination and arrangement of the' several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1; A filing device comprising a holder, a collar rotatably mounted on a part of the handle, a threaded socketon the collar, a weight having threaded engagement with the socket, a nut for'holding the collar in adjusted position on the body, file holding means associated with the body and a handle rotatably connected with the body.
2. A filing device comprising a handle, a collar rotatably mounted 'on a part of the handle, a threaded socket on the collar, .a weight having threaded engagement with the socket, a graduated scale on the exterior of the collar, a handle 'rotatably connected ture.
