GAS-VALVE REGEPTACLE.
Application led February 28, 1923. Serial No. 621,857.
This invention rela-tes to gas fixtures of the character employed with household service piping.
In gas service piping throughout buildings and residences, it is customary to provide in theseparate rooms, gas cocks to which iiexible tubing may be attached for serving stoves for temporary heating, or for the service of 1 gas to various other appliances. In the installation of such means for providing temporary service of gas appliances, a nipple is extended up through the floor or out through the wall near the base board and a. hose yattachment gas cock screwed thereupon. yThis gas cock, by nature of the construction employed, projects-outwardly yinto the room and presents a detraction to the general appearance of the room besides, and being unsightly in appearance is in the way.
It isy an object of my invention to provide a means whereby a room may be served by a gas connection so that gas appliances may be lused in the room, without visibility of the gas cock or its projection from the wall of the room.
It is a further object of the invention to provide this means in the form of a receptacle which may be set into the wall with the front thereof flush with the surface of the wall and having means of access into the interior of the receptacle whereby the hose may be attached to the improved form of gas cock I employ, and whereby the valve may be operated.
The especial advantages of my invention kand further objects thereof will be made evident hereinafter.
Referring to the drawing which is for illustrative purposes only:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the utility of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section through the invention as shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a. face view of the receptacle with ythe valve disposed therein, the receptacle having the cover removed therefrom.
In Fig. 1 of the drawing, 11 indicates a wall having a gas outlet receptacle 12, embodying the features of my invention, mounted therein at a point slightly above the base board 13. The customary employment of such receptacle is for the attachment of a exible hose 14 for conveying gas to a portable heater suchas shown at 15, as Such heaters are only used templorarily. 1t
is desirable that the receptacle 12 be as inconspicuous as possible, and as hereinbefore stated my invention eliminates the necessityv of outstanding gas cocks such as now eniployed.
Fig. 2 illustrates the interior construction of the receptacle 12 which consists of a metal box 17 which may be set into the wall 11 so that the front thereof will be in a plane with the surface of the plaster or other wall iin` ish 19. This box 1i' is provided with inwardly extending tongues 2O having threaded openings 21 therein whereby a cover plate 22 may be attached by meansy of screws 23. An opening 24 is provided in the cover through which the attachment end 25 of the flexible hose 14 may be inserted and forced upon the nozzle 26 of the gas cock/2T my invention provides, and an opening 29 is also provided in the cover in a` position opposite to the valve stem 3() in order that a suitable key or wrench 31 may engage the end 32 of the stem 30.
' The cock 27 provides a threaded projection 35 which may be screwed into a sleeve coupling 36 mounted upon the upper end of a gas riser 37 and has the portion 33 thereof prepared for the application of a wrench for the purpose of screwing the cock A 27 into the coupling 36. This wrench engaging portion 38 is preferably hexagonal in form. The nozzle 26 extends upwardly from the valve body 39 in the form of a gooseneck as indicated at 40, and an opening 41 as indicated in Fig. 2 extends centrally through the threaded projection 35 and through the nozzle 26 to provide a gas passage, the flow of gas through which is controlled by the valve plug 43 from which the valve stem 30 extends.
It will be noticed that the gooseneck dips rearwardly and then projects forwardly in a horizontal plane so that the portion thereof to which the hose is attached extends at right angles to the pipe 37 to which the valve is attached. This construction provides an ample length of the end 45 of the nozzle upon which the rubber hose attachment member 25 is forced without requiring an unusual depth of the box 17, and also permits the valve to be rotated upon the axis A-A within a box of minimumwidth for the purpose of screwing into the coupling 36.
