M .invention relates to improvements in bows, and has for its object to provide an arrow-discharging base embodying an arm-iitting brace, a I handle, and a hand-guard; and a looped resilient cord-member; the brace, handle and hand-guard being preferably formed from a single metallic sheet.
In the drawings- Fig. 1 is a plan view of a bow embodying my invention, with a` projectile in place.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the bow.
Fig. 8 is a rear elevation of the bow.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the projectile for my bow, a part being broken away.
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view of said projectile, taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Description.
The member A is preferably struck from a single metallic sheet to form the bifurcated arm-fitting brace 6; the bar cord-base 8 wherein the resilient cord-member 9 is mounted as shown; and the handle The cord-base 8 serves also as a guide for the projectile arrow 11, and as a guard for the archeris hand, which is thereby lept from contact with the arrow 11.
The arrow 11 is preferably formed of a metallic sheet folded upon itself as shown in Fig. 5; the arrow 11 having the cordengaging notch 12 and an expanded rear end or feather B, serving both as a fingerhold and to guide the arrow 11 in its fiight.
The cord-member 9 I have shown as made of a single tempered wire whose terminals FRANKLIN o. oATEs, or' s'r. Louis, Mrssotrar.

are embedded in the cord-base 8, the resili-` ency of the cord-member 9 being augmented by the coiled-springs 1l ll formed of the single wire employed; and I have also shown that single wire as having a central V-shaped half-loop 15 to engage with the notch 12 of the arrow 11.
Mode of operation.
' In use, the handle 10 is grasped by the left hand of the archer, the brace 6 engaging hls left arm between the elbow and The arrow 11 is then dropped into place7 its notch 12 engaging the cord-member 9 55 at the half-loop 15; the arrow 11 is then drawn rearwardly, the feather 13 being held between the thumb and a finger of the archers right hand, until, the desired tension having been produced in the cord-mem- 50 ber 9, the arrow is released.
Various embodiments of my invention may be made without departing from my invention as hereinafter claimed.
1. A bow comprising a base including a handle and an arm-brace, and a cord member mounted in said base.
2. A bow ,comprising an element formed from a single metallic sheet and comprising an arm-fitting brace, a cord-base, and a bar connecting said arm-fitting brace and cordbase; in combination with a resilient cord-` member mounted in said cord-base.
3. A bow comprising a base including a handle and an arm-brace, in combination with a resilient cord-member made of a single wire whose terminals are embedded in said base and having a central V-shaped half-loop arranged to 'engage a projectile` 50 In testimony whereof I have hereunto FRANKLIN O.
