GAME CARD.

Application filed September 30, 192-5.

This iiivention relates to a pack of play ing cards of novel design.

The object of the invention is to provide a pack of playing cards which may be employed in playing many interesting games and which pack will comprise groups of cards distinguished by symbols represented upon the faces thereof, as well as by numbers indicating the values .of the cards, the invention contemplating a symmetrical arrangement of the value indicating numbers with relation to the symbols such that the cards will present a more or less uniform appearance notwithstanding the varying charactor of the distinguishing symbols.

The pack of playing cards embodying the invention consists of seven suits of seven cards each and an odd. card. Figures 1 and 2 are representative of the cards of one suit which will be known as the square cards and there will be, as stated, seven cards of this suit, each card, indicated by the numeral 1, having printed upon its face two geometric squares indicated by the numeral 2, one of the squares being located near each end of the card, and the squares being preferably printed in black. Upon the said face of the card. and substantially y within the bounds of. each square 2, there is printed a numeral indicated by the numeral 3, the numeral 1 appearing upon the squares of one card of the suit, the numeral 2 appearing upon another card ofthe suit, and so on throughout the seven cards of the suit. It will be observed by reference to Figures 1 and 2, that the numerals are symmetrically arranged with relation to the square symbolic backgrounds upon which they are printed. The cards of this suit will each two plan views of two Serial No. 59,712.

2, and a numeral, indicated by the numeral 6, corresponding to the numeral 3, so that the cards may be read from either end.

The cards shown in Figures 3 and 1 of the drawings represent another suit, and the cards of this suit will be known as the cone cards, these cards being indicated by the numeral 7 and each bearing two representations 8 of a cone and having printed within the boundaries of each representation and in symmetrical arrangement with relation thereto, the numeral which is to designate the value of the card and which is indicated by the numeral 9 and these cards will be numbered consecutively from 1 to 7 in the cards of the previously described suit. Itis preferable that in this instance the cone representations 8 be printed in brown. The cards likewise bear, in their diametric opposite corners, a symbol 10 corresponding to the symbol 8, and a numeral or ordinal indicated by the numeral 11 corresponding to the 'value of the indicating numeral 9. Each card will also bear, near its upper and lower margins, the word Cone, as indicated by-the numeral 12.

Figures 5 and 6 of the drawings illustrate cards which are representative of a diamond, these cards being indicatedby the numeral 13 and each bearing the representation of two diamonds 14 thereon, andsymmetrically arranged withrelation to these symbols the ordinals from llto '7? designating the value of the different cards, as indicated by the numeral 15. The symbols 1% will preferably be printed in blue, and each card of the suit will hear at diametrically opposite corners, symbols 16, corresponding to the symbols 14, and ordinals indicated by the numeral 17 corresponding to the value indicating ordinals 15, each card having printed upon its face, at its upper and lower margins, the word Diamond.

The cards illustrated in Figures 7 and 8 of the drawings will be known as cross cards, and are representative of the seven cards of this particular suit, each card being indicated by the numeral 18 and each card bearing upon its face two cross-shaped representations indicated by the numeral 19. These representations will be printed preferably in purple and there will likewise be printed upon the face of thecard, symmetrically arranged with respect to each symbol 19, an ordinal indicated by the numeral 20, indicating the value of the card, the cards bearing ordinals arranged from l to 7, in the suit. Symbols 21 and ordinals 22 corresponding to the symbols 19 and ordinals 20, will be printed upon the face of the cards in the opposite corners thereof, and the word Cross indicated by the numeral 23, will be printed near the upper and lower margins of the cards.

Figures 9 and 10 of the drawings are representative of cards which will be known as star cards, and the cards of these figures are indicated by the numeral 24:, and each has printed upon its face, in copper color, two stars indicated by the numeral 25, and value indicating ordinals, symmetrically arranged'with relation to the stars, and indicated by the numeral 26. Each card has likewise printed upon its face near its upper and lower margins, the word star, and in diametrically opposite corners of each card there is printed a smybol 27 corresponding to the symbol 25, and a value designating ordinal indicated by the numeral 28 and corresponding to the ordinal 26.

The cards illustrated in Figures 11 and 12 of the drawings, are representative of the cards of another suit and these cards will be known as seal cards. These cards are indicated by the numeral 29, and each card has two seal representations 3O printed upon its face, preferably in green, value indicating ordinals, indicated by the numeral 31, being likewise represented upon the face of each card and symmetrically arranged with relation to the symbols 30. Seal symbols 32 corresponding to the seal symbols 30 are printed in diagonally opposite corners of each of the cards of the seal suit and ordinals, indicated by the numeral 33, corresponding to the value indicating ordinals 31, are likewise printed in said corners of the cards, the word seal being printed upon the face of the cards near the upper and lower margins thereof, as indicated by the numeral 34;

Figures 13 and 14; of the drawings, represent cards of the remaining suit of the pack and these cards are indicated by the numeral 35 and each has printed upon its face two hearts 36, preferably represented in red, and ordinals 37, which indicate the value of the cards, are symmetrically arranged with relation to the symbols 36. The'word heart indicated by the numeral 38, is printed upon the face of each card of this suit near the upper and lower margins thereof, and representations 39 and ordinals 40, corresponding the heart representations 36 and the ordinals 37, are printed upon the face of the cards in diagonally opposite corners thereof.

In all of the cards of all of the suits, the symbols which are printed in the corners of the cards are of the same color as the larger symbols, as are also the ordinals which appear in the corners of the cards and which indicate the value of the cards.

The odd card heretofore referred to, is indicated in Figure 15 of the drawings and will be known as the monkey card. This card is indicated by the numeral ll", and has printed upon its face the representation 42 of two monkeys so postured that it will appear that each monkey is climbing the tail of the other monkey. The printing on this card will preferably be in black, and in diagonally opposite corners of the cards there are printed small representations 43 of a monkey, and the ,word Monkey is printed, as at 44, along the lateral margins of the card, the letters of the word being arranged 5 in vertical alinement with the first letter of the word located adjacent the respective rep resentation 43.

Various games may be played by the use of the pack of cards above described, and in order that the nature of the invention may be understood the rules for playing" the game, which will be known as seventyfive will be given. In playing this game, assuming that the game is to be played by four players, the players draw for the deal and the player drawing the highest numher is entitled to deal. The deal passes to the left, one card being dealt at a time to each player until each player has twelve cards. This leaves two cards which are placed face down upon the table. Beginning with the player at the left of the dealer, the players bid on their hands and each player may bid any number that he desires that is divisible by five, such for example as ten, fifteen, twenty, etc., but he must make as many points as he bids or he is set back a corresponding number. If a player does not care to bid higher than a previously bidding player, he may pass his-bid for that particular hand. The player making the highest bid takes the two cards from the center of the table and adds them to the cards in his hand and then discards from his cards two cards which must not be countv cards, such as sevens. and fives, each seven card, in this game, 7 counting five points, and each five card counting five points, and the monkey card counting five points. The player then names the suit which is to be trumps, and leads from his hand by playing any card he desires. The play continues to the left, and a player taking a trick must lead for the next trick or play. A player must play a card of the same suit that is led, if he has a card of that suit, unless he prefers to play a trump, but shall not be required to play a trump unless a card of the trump suit is led. The

monkey card 41 has the same value as a trump card and must be played when trumps are led, if the player holding it has no other trump. This particular card has no indicated value, but in this particular game is played between the four and five of the trump suits. In other words, five, six or seven of trump suits may take the monkey card, and, on the other hand, the monkey card will take any other trick on which it is played, two hundred points constituting a game.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is: I

1, A pack of playing cards comprising seven suits of seven cards each, and an odd card having the value of a trump card, each card of each suit bearing two symbol representations located above and below the middle of the face of the card, the symbol representations of the cards of each suit being represented in a distinguishing color, the color of the symbol representations of all of the suits being different, each card bearing upon each of its symbol representations an ordinal symmetrically arranged with relation thereto and indicating the value of the card.

2. A pack of playing cards comprising seven suits of seven cards each, and an odd card having the value of a trump card, each card of each suit bearing two symbol representations located above and. below the middle of the face of the card, the symbol representations of the cards of each suit becard of each suit bearing two symbol representations located above and below the middle of the face of the card, the symbol representations of the cards of each suit being represented in a distinguishing color, the color of the symbol representations of all of the suits being different, each card bearing upon each of its symbol representations an ordinal symmetrically arranged with relation thereto and indicating the value of the card, each card bearing upon its face near its upper and lower margins, a word identifying the symbol represented upon the card, each card bearing in diagonally opposite corners symbol representations corresponding to the first mentioned symbol representations and ordinals corresponding to the first mentioned ordinals.
