The repairing device in which my invention is embodied is here shown adapted for use in repairing aso-called piazza chair, the

The operator, by

pulling on the tool, causes the ligature en gaged therewith to slide or move endwise through the corresponding eye 22, until the ligature is suitably tension-ed. The flaps l4 and 15 of the other pair are then turned under the two other members I), and connected by the ligatures engaged with the flapl i, in the manner and by the manipulation above described. v

The sheet 12 is now tensioned in two directions and stretched smoothly across the frame, its recesses 13'conforming to the upright members a, as shown by Figure 2.

If desired, the seat 0 may be entirely removed, and a support for the sheet 12 may be extemporized by engaging crossed wires '27 with the members 6, as shown by Figure I serted in the pocketed flaps 14, and receiving the looped inner ends 19 of the ligatures, and

grommets30, inserted in the pocketed flaps 15, and constituting the eyes in which the free end portions of the ligatures are inserted and moved endwise.

Figures 6 and 7 show the flaps interrupted by notches 31, each flap including a series of folded spaced apart tongues forming a series of alined pockets. The inner ends of the ligatures are engaged'with bends 32 of reinforcing wires 33, inserted in the pockets of the flaps 14. The pockets of the flaps 15 are provided with a reinforcing wire 34, having bends 35, constituting the eyes in which the free end portions of the ligatures are inserted and moved endwise.

Figure 8 shows a portion of a flap 14, provided with folded spaced apart tabs 36, in which a reinforcing rod 37 is inserted; With the rod 37 are engaged separately formed loops or bends 38, with which the inner ends of the ligature-s are engaged.

Figure 9 shows a slight variation from Figure 8, the flap 14 being formed as shown. by Figure 6, and the reinforcing rod 39, inserted in the spaced apart pockets, being provided with separately formed loops or bends i0, with which the inner ends of the ligatures are engaged.

It will be seen that each ligature 16 may be'tensioned and fastened independently of the others, so that breakage of any ligature will not affect the others.

I claim: h

For use with a chair which includes corner uprights, and frame members connected with the uprights, and forming marginal portions of a seat frame; a repair device comprising a flexible sheet formed to cover the opening bo-unded'by said frame and provided with two pairs of flaps forming major portions of the margin of the sheet and with corner recesses between the flaps, forming minor portions of said margin, each flap having a hemmed free edge, a reinforcing rod in each of said hems, the flaps of each pair being adapted to be folded inwardly under two opposite frame members, and the cornerrecesses being adapted to conform to the uprights; and two series of independent flexible ligatures fixed at their inner ends to two contiguous flapsaround said rods, the other two contiguous flapsbeing provided with eyes in said hems in which said ligatures are insertable around said rods to tension the sheetin two directions the ligatures being adapted to be independently secured after tensioning thesheet, to maintain the tension. r
