The severing mechanismoperates at the bridge plate 14. This plate is preferably made of some soft and ductile metal,l such as lead or a com osition thereof.

Upon each plate 49 are links 55 supporting a serrated grip bar 56. Each bar 56 is so hung, that when the links 55 are vertical, the' teeth onbar 56 will bein engagement with the belt 13.
