My invention further consists in providing mechanism for producing the above results which will be very, simple, effective and which will not interfere in the regular action of the heddles-and lay beam 01"" the loom.
My present invention more particularly contemplates certain improvements n looms of the type shown, described and claimed i-n my United States Patent No. 628,206, with the object in view of improving the means tor controllingthe movement of the woven fabric on the winding beam.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which' Fig. 1 represents a front elevation of: a loom having my improvements applied thereto.

The heddles 6, 7, 8 and 9 are all utilized for weaving the ground or body of the fabric, while the heddles 6 and 7 alone are used for weaving the loops which are to form the plaits. Then the hcddles 6, and 7 are being actuated .to form the loops the hjeddles 8 and 9 remain stationary.
An auxiliary frame 10 is attached to the rear of the main frame 1 andarranged to receive the journals of warp beams 11 and 12. These warp beams 11 and 12 supply the warp, threads to the severalheddles. The warp beam 11 is provided with the usual weighted frictional device, which consists of a flexible strip 13 passing over a pulley let on the warp beam and provided at its dependent ends with a large weight and a smaller weight 16. The function of the weight 15, is to wind the warp threads onto the beam 11 thereby tending to exert the tension on the thread leadingflto the heddles Sand 9 rearwardly. The warp beam 12 is also provided with a frictional device which comprises a flexible connection 17 arranged to connect a pulley 18 on the beam and having one end. secured to the floor at 19, while the other end has secured thereto a weight 20. The threads from the warp beam 11 are directed overa guide roller 21 mounted in brackets carried by the auxiliary'frame 10.
The winding beam 23 upon which the woven fabric is wound is mounted to rotate in supports 2-1, 25. secured between the breast beam 26 [and a gift 2?, which breast beam and girt are fi'vedin the main frame 1. Rotary movement is imparted to the winding beam 23 and winding roll 28 in a direction to wind the finished fabric by means of a ratchet wheel 36 mounted on a stud 37 and provided with a pinion 88 which meshes with the spur gear A pawl 39 is arranged to engage the ratchet wheel 36 and is lived to a lever 40, which is connected by a link l-l to an arm 42' fast on the one end by a shaft l3 journaled in the main frame 1. Thus it will be seen that by reason of this bolt and slot connection between the oscillating arm to and lay beam 2, a proper movement may be given the pawl 33!) and the rotation of the ratchet wheel 3 governed accordingly. The rocking movement of the lay beam 2 will impart a uniform moven'ient to the pawl -39 and ratchet wheel 36. which in turn actuates the winding beam 223 through the pinion 38, spur rear 33 and pinion 31- fast on the winding; beam 23. while the winding; roll 28, at the same time. receives its motion through the pinion 32, fast on the spur gear 33 meshing with the spur gear 31 fi ed on the roll. The train of gear wheels of the winding mechanism is actuated by the oscillation or the lay beam 2 and the arm which moves the lever l0 and with it the pawl 39, which in turn rotates the rat het wheel 36 and the several gears in the train. By reason of the mechanism above described, I am enabled to weave plaits of varying width into the fabric during the continuous operation of the loom, and also weave plaits at various distances apart to suit dilterent requirements.
The mechanism for inserting the weft in the if er'ic has been omitted from the drawings and description, since it would tend to unduly complicate the structure. Any suitable weft introducing means may be employed, as the structure which I have shown and described for weaving plaits into the fabric not interfere with the weft introducing means.
