To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, EDWARD J. Sorinmrr, a citizen of. the United States, and a resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented. a certain new and useful Garment-Pressing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a pressing ap-' paratus particularly applicable for pressing knit goods, as sweaters, underwear, hosiery, and other articles, and intended primarily, butnot exclusively for garment factories and laundries, and it has for; its object a particularly simple and efficient means for facilitating the arrangement of the articles on the conveyor belt, and means for controlling the operation of the cone veyor belt and o l the pressing machine.
The invention consists in the novel ieatures and in the combinations and construc tions hereinafter-{set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which like characters designate f corresponding parts in all the-tiews.

Thereafter the lever 18 is thrown to connect the cam'17 to the motor, so that, the cam makes a one-half revolution. The motion of the lever 7 is transferred to the toggle 25 links 9, 10, after the links 9, 10, have been straightened by themanual closing of the press head bythe operation of the handle 21,

so that, the toggle has nearly straightened, the link is carried upwardly to nearly an up right position, so that, the pin 29 moves to the lower end of the slot, and when the power is applied to the'lever 7, the pin 29 then shoulders against the lower end of the slot 30, and hence, thrusts the toggle links 9, 10, into or nearly intotheir dead center line. The operating mechanism for the press head 2 may be of any suitable form, size and construction, and its construction per se forms no part ofthis invention.

The intermittent operation of this lever clutch mechanism forms no part of this invention, and in' so far as this invention is concerned, it is merely necessary to bear in mind that "the lever 18'controllingithe cam will cause the cam to make a half: revolution each time that the lever 18 is operated.
The means for controlling the actuation of the belt 31,-. comprises a start and stop motor M, the shaft S of which-is provided with a pulley over which a sprocket chain 80 also runs, and over a suitable sprocket wheel '81 mounted on the axlc'of the roller 32 at the right hand end of belt.
The motor M is controlled by a push button switch 82 operating a switch within the I case'83, which switch is connected by conductors within the cable 84 to an automatic breaker switch 85 of any suitable construction. Upon the pressing of the button 82 the motor will be energized and-move the belt until the belt is stopped. The belt is stopped by a suitable in the case87 and coacting with shoulders 88 switch 86 located withor-their e uivalent spaced apart "at proper intervals a ong the margin of the belt 31, this switch being moved into and out of' engagemcnt with contact 89, in circuit with the magnet of the breaker switch 85. As the breaker switch 85 is a standard article in manufacture, and the construction and operand then re ation thereof is well known, description thereof is thought to be unnecessary.
The operator of the machine wh'le the pressing operation is being performed places new work on the left hand or receiving side of the belt, Fig. 1, moves the clamping. member 46 into engagement therewith, by deressing the lever 51, and after the garment as been properly stretched in position releases the clamping member 46' either by depressingthe trip pedal 59 or operating the handle 67, He then opens the press head'by actuating the'handle 76. ,He then presses the 'button82 which energizes the motor M causing the belt to travel a predetermined distance-as one-sixth of its length. In operation when the button 82 is pressed the belt travelsuntil one of the shoulders 88 on thebelt engages the switch 86 and moves it'out of engagement with the contact 87,"whereby upon the circuit through the magnet of the" breaker switch is broken, and the switch the switch arm 86 the circuit .is broken at the breaker switch and the belt comes to a stop, while the switch 86 again moves engagement with thecontact 89 for closing the circuit through themagnet control of the breaker switch, so that, the breaker switch is closed and the currentwill pass through the motor when the button 82-is depressed,
thus upon again pressing the button 82' the circuitwill-be completed through the motor M until the belt travels a suflicient distance to operate the'switch '86 to again open or to breakthe circuit to the magnet'control of the breaker at the contact 89. The shoulders 88 "are spaced a suitable distance apart to cause the belt to travel a sufficient distance during each operation, to carry the portion of the belt onthe lower buck oil the lower buck to the right and the portion of the belt containing the work to be pressed between the pressing elements 1, 2. After the belt has traveled approximately one-sixth its length one of the knock-off shoulders 88 enga es the switch lever 86 and breaks the circum through the magnet of the breaker switch 85, so that, the circuit through the feed wires to the motor is broken off, and the motor stops. The operator then turns the handle 21 to bring thepress head 2 down to the buck 1 and thereafter operates the handle 76, to operate the shifting lever 18 which controls the operation of the power lever 7 v by the cam. 1 and again arranges new work on the receiving end of the belt,
operates the handle 76 to cause the lever 18 to again connect the cam to the actuating means, and causes another half revolution of operated.
What I claim is K 1. In a pressing apparatus, the combination of a pressing machine, comprising coa'cting pressing elements, one of which is movable toward and from the other, means for actuating the movable pressing element, a conveyor belt movable over the face 'of the other element, motor means for actuating the belt, means controlled by the belt for controlling the amount of movement of the belt by the motor means and operator operated means for controlling the actuation of the belt by the motor means.
2. In a pressing apparatus, the combination of a pressing machine, comprising coacting pressing elements, one of which is movable toward and from the other, means for actuating the movable pressing element, a conveyor belt movable over the face of the other element, motor means for actuating the belt, means controlled by the belt for determining the amount of movement of the belt by the motor means, comprising shoulders on the belt at intervals, and a movable control member arranged in the v asoeee path of the shoulders and arranged to be actuated thereby.
3. In a pressing apparatus, the combination of a'pressing machine, comprising coacting pressing elements, one of which is movable toward and from the other, means for actuating the movable pressing element, a conveyor belt movable over the face of the other element, motor means including an electric motor for actuating the belt, an automatic breaker switch for controlling the flow of current to the motor, a manually operableswitch for throwing the breaker switch to on position and a remotecontrol controlled by the belt for throwing the breaker to off position.

In a pressing apparatus the combination of a pressing machine comprising coacting pressing elements, 'one of which is movable toward and from the other power means for actuating the movable element, a work conveyor belt movable between the pressing elements and extending beyond op posite sides of the pressing machine, a frame supporting the belt on opposite sides of the machine, power means for actuating the belt, operator opelatcd means for controlling the opening and closing of the press by its power means, operator operated means controlling the actuation of the belkand means controlled'by the belt for stopping the actuationof the belt by the power means.
