a full, clear, and exactdescrip- The present invention has for its object a toy vehicle of the type composed of two frames each mounted upon wheeled truck provided witha'device-opposing their backward movement, these two framessupport ing a seatand a foot-rest and being hinged together with stops limiting thelr downward movement, the vehicle therefore EltlViLllGlIlQ ash result of the successive movements of the trucks towards and away from one another.

\Vhen a child occupies the seat on with his feet resting upon the front axle or steering bar 5, he can by bracing himself against this bar, exert a pull with his arms upon the handles k, by leaning first forwards and then straightening himself up; in so doing he raises the four longitudinal members of the frame and thereby the seat on, the front truck scotched by its ratchet device remaining in place while the rear truck moves to wards it (Figure 3.) The chains u are then stretched out between the two frames to which they are fixed, limiting in this way the closure of the cross-structure formed by the longitudinal members. If from this raised position the child allows his body to fall again upon the seat m, by ceasing to pull upon the handles 70, the crossing point of the longitudinals will fall while these members open out; in this movement, the rear truck being scotched in the backward direction, the front truck now advances thus carrying the whole vehicle with it in its forward movement. The raising and lowering movements succeed one another in this way with continual forward propulsion of the vehicle.
The modification of construction represented in Figures 4 and 5 differs from the first example essentially in that each frame is constituted by a single longitudinal memher, the longitudinal c presenting at about its centre a slot 0 having an opening sufficiently wide to admit thorethrough the longitudinal 7L which pivots upon the bolt Z. In this example the rear wheels a are fast upon the rear axle 7) which revolves in the lower end of the longitudinal h the ratchet clutch device (Figure (l) acting upon the axle b.
In the third modification(Figures 7 to 12), the front frame is constituted by two metal bars 6 of suitable shape, bolted together upon a wooden spacing member (Z towards their lower ends.
The rear frame, constituted by a board 72, cut out in the shape of a horse, is fitted between the two bars 6 These three members are connected together pivotally by the hinge-bolt Z The seat m has at its front end a notch m into which there fit the withers of the horse 7L2, upon which this seat is fixed pivotally in this position by the hinge-bolt m of which the head and the nut are sunk in two recesses m formed in the lateral faces of the seat. The lower face of this seat has a longitudinal groove m in which the back of the horse enters at the end of the downward movement of the toy.
The seat m rests and slides at its rear end upon two rollers m rotatably mounted upon two spindles m riveted to the upper ends of the two metal bars 6 which are cranked for this purpose.
A spring a fixed at one end to a hook n screwed into the body of the horse 7L2 and at the other end to a bolt a passing through the bars 6 tends to draw together the lower parts of the two frames.
The steering rod 6 (Figures 8 and 12) fixed upon the axle b of the front truck presents in its upper face a recess g in the shape of a hollow spherical cap, in which there is fitted the bottom of a ball 1" screwed below the member (Z of the front frame.
The members r and (l are held in contact in this way by a bolt 8 passing through them, fixed rigidly at one end in the member (Z by the nuts t and u and at the other end with a certain flexibility and a certain clearance in the steering rod so as to allow the operation of the ball-joint 1*; this obtained by the wide aperture o and the spring a: which presses on one hand upon the head of the bolt .9 and on the other hand upon the bar I) by means of the washers g and The longitudinal members and the cross pieces are arranged in such a way that for transport or when at rest, the two trucks can be folded right back.
The ratchet devices may act either upon the wheels or upon the axles according to circinnstances.
The various parts of the toy may represent different subjects and receive decoration and ornamentation of any kind.
In general, the shapes and accessory arrangement of the various members of the devices described constituting materials and the details of construction may be varied without departing from the present inven tion.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A toy vehicle, comprising two frames, a pivotal joint connecting said frames, trucks mounted at the lower ends of said frames, means for opposing backward movement of the vehicle, said means carried by said trucks, a seat rockably mounted upon one of said frames, rollers mounted upon the other of said frames, said seat resting at its rear end upon said rollers, and elastic connections between said frames said elastic connections tending to draw said trucks together in opposition to the riders weight.
2. A toy vehicle, comprising two frames, a pivotal joint connecting said frames, trucks mounted at the lower ends of said frames, means for opposing backward movement of the vehicle, said means carried by said trucks, a seat rockably mounted upon one of said frames, foot-rests upon the forward truck, and a ball-joint connection between said forward truck and the lower end of.
