Description
March 30 1926.
G. OLSON NEWSPAPER HOLDER Filed June 13. 1925 ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 39, 1926 U IT E stares v GILBERT OLSON, OF JOLIET, ILLINOIS.
NEWSiAPER HOLDER.
Application filed June 13, 1925.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Giumnr OLSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Joliet, in the county of Willand State of Illinois, have invented new and useful 1m provements in Newspaper Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in newspaper holders and more particularly to a device whereby a plurality of newspapers will be securely retained in a single holder. The main object of my invention is the provision of a means for supporting and retaining a plurality of newspapers on an outside dispensing stand whereby the papers may be neatly and effectively retained in position.
It is customary on news stands which are positioned outside of a building, to use various types of weights placed on the papers in order to prevent them from be coining blown away and it is one of the objects of my invention to provide a stand which will eliminate the use of various types of weights and provide aholder which includes a coin receptacle and the construction is such that a plurality of newspapers may be supported in the holder and retained in position so that they may be readily removed one at a time.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction and combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings,
in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a newspaper holder constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view, and
F igB is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, it will be noted that I provide a receptacle for the papers which is open at one side and includes the bottom 1, side walls 2, and rear wall 3, said rear wall extending upwardly beyond the tops of the side walls and having its opposite edges disposed at right angles away from the body to form longitudinally extending ears 4 having slots 5 therein.
The newspapers are placed in the receptacle upon the bottom 1 as clearly shown Serial No. 36,916.
in Fig. 0 and inorder toretain the pa pers against accidental removal, suitable weighted means is provided for retaining the papers in place. The weighted means includes a U-shaped movable frame 6, thc ends of which are disposed at right angles to form a tongue 7 which is movably arranged within the slots 5 wherebyto mount the U-shaped frame 6 for swinging and sliding movement. Mounted upon the intermediate portion of the frame 6 at each end thereof are the weight rollers 8 and mounted upon the intermediate portion of the frame 6 between the weight rollers 8 is 'a coin receptacle 9 having one side provided with a swinging door 10 for removal of the coins and provided in its top with a slot 11 whereby the coins for the purchase of the papers may be deposited in the receptacle.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that I have, provided a simple and inexpenof construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: Y
1. A newspaper holder including a receptacle open at one side, a back extending upwardly at the other side, right angularly disposed ears carried by the back having longitudinal slots therein, a frame member having adjustable connection with the slots and weighted members carried by the frame. and disposed within said receptacle.
2. A newspaper holder including a receptacle, a back portion extending above the sides of the receptacle, angularly disposed ears on said back portion having longitudinal slots, a U-shaped frame having its ends movably mounted in said slots and Weighted rollers carried by the intermediate portion of said frame.
3. A device of the character described including a receptacle, a back portion therefor extending above the side Walls of the receptacle, slotted ears carried by the back and disposed at right angles thereto, a
U-shaped frame having its end: adjnstah'iy mounted Within the slots, movable weighte 10 carried by the intermediateportion and a coin receptacle carried by the intermediate portion between said weights.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature.
GILBERT OLSON.
