' M. BABIARZ WINDOW SHADE AND CURTAIN SUPPORT Filed April 24, 1925 IN VEN TOR ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 23, 1925.
UNITED STATES MACIEJ BABIARZ, 0F BAYONNE, NEW JERSEY.
WINDOW SHADE AND CURTAIN SUPPORT.
Application filed April 24, 1923. Serial No. 634,207.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAornJ BABIARZ, a citizen of Poland, residing at Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Shade and Curtain Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in window shade and curtain supports and has as one of its objects to provide a strip on which are attached the fixtures or brackets carrying the poles and rollers to which the shades and curtains are secured.
Another purpose is to produce means for engaging the shade support rolls to the brackets, irrespective of slight irregularities in their length.
A further aim is in the provision of means for adjusting the hang of the curtain, so that it may be arranged, when drawn downward, parallel with the window casing sides and not, as frequently occurs in ordinary hangers, at an angle therewith.
These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a partial front elevational view of a conventional type of window, showing the application of the invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary plan view of one end of the fixture carrying plate and associated parts.
Figure 3 is an end view of the same.
Figure 4 is a bottom view thereof.
In the drawing the numeral 10 designates a window frame. of the usual construction having an upper sash 11 over which is drawn a shade 12.
An elongated rectangular strip of wood 14 is secured in a substantially level position across the top of the window frame to which it is fastened by screws or the like as shown.
Fastened near the ends of the strip are the bases 15 of the support brackets, their stems 16 leading to inwardly reaching bosses 17, in one of which, preferably the left hand, the usual devices are provided for engaging the end of the shade roller carrying the shade 12.
The right hand bracket is provided with an adjustable screw 19 having a reduced point to engage the roller and thus it will be seen that rollers slightly varying in length can be accommodated.
The bracket continues as at 20 outward beyond the boss 17, the reduced extension entering between the forks 21 of a drapery carrying member 22 having openings 23 and 24- to receive their supporting poles as at 25.
The member 22 is pivoted on a bolt 26 passing through the forks 21 and extension 20 and is provided with a winged clamp nut 27 whereby the forks may be tightened upon the member 20 holding the element 22 at an angle with the bracket as desired.
The opposite bracket may be made with out the described joint elements as it is nec-' essary to adjust only one by turning it on the pivot bolt, in order that the draperies, when extended, are parallel with the sides of the window frame.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple and practical device for the purposes mentioned has been disclosed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A combined window shade and curtain support bracket comprising a cast metal base having a central horizontal outstanding integral lug and a tenon projecting transversely therefrom, a curtain pole carrying member hingedly engaged with said tenon to swing in a vertical plane, means for clamping said members in adjustment, and a thumb screw adjustable in said lug to directly engage the end of a window shade roller upon its axis.
In witness whereof I have afiixed my sig nature.
MACIEJ BABIARZ.
