Be it known that I, JOHN B. CLANTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Charlotte, in the county of Mecklenburg and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful I-leat Dei-lector, of which the following is a specication.
This invention has reference to radiator coils, and aims to provide a novel means to be employed in connection with heating coils positioned in open fireplaces or the like, whereby the heat which usually passes ofi through the chimney of an open fireplace, may be retarded in its upward passage and directed to the coils.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise'embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view disclosing heating coils supplied with a device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates an open fireplace in which the coils 6 are arranged,
the coils being secured in any appropriate manner to the rear wall of the fireplace.
The coils 6 are in communication with the radiator 7, the communication between the coils 6 and radiator 7 being established through the pipe 8, pipe 9 and pipe 10.
Radiators such as indicated at 11 may be in lcommunication with the radiator 7 as through the feed pipe 12 and pipe 13. lVatcr is supplied to the coils 6 from the tank 14 which is in communication with the coils at the lower end thereof, as through the feed pipe 15.
The pipes 16 and 17 establish communin cation between pipes 12 and 15 and permit `condensation to pass from the pipes 10 and 18 to the pipe 15 and be returned tothe tank, thereby eliminating the collection of fluid in the radiators 7 and 11. Suitable water cocks indicated at 18 are disposed in theV pipe 17 and have communication with h communication with the pipes 8 and 9 to l allow the steam to exhaust when a predetermined pressure has been reached.`
In order that the maximum amount of heat will contact with the coils G, baiile plates 21 are provided, which plates are formed with arms 22 that have hook portions 23 designed to hook over one pipe of a coil and rest against the adjacent lower pipe of the coil thereby supporting the plate at an angle with respect to the coils to direct the heat to the coils.
F rom the foregoing it will be obvious'that as the heat passes upwardly, the heat will collect under the battles where the heat is forced against the coils to heat the fluid therein.
lhat is claimed as new is 1. Ina fireplace, a series of pipecoils positioned in the fireplace, deflectors, each defiector being suspended from a` coil and resting on the adjacent lower coil, and said deflectors being supported at oblique angles with respect to the coils.
2. A heating device for use in' connection with horizontally disposed heating coils comprising a body portion in the form of a plate, hook members including vertical arms secured to the body portion and adapted to support the body portion at an oblique angle with respect to the arms, said hook members adapted to be positioned over a coil, the arms adapted to extend downward ly to engage the adjacent lower pipe of the coils to hold the body portion in its active position. n
